On the principal of NAFTA alone the US would benefit from aiding Canada from any sort of attack.
Shipping lanes and air traffic passes through and or over Canada on its way to the US which would have an effect on the US economy if it were to be cut off.
Secondly, it is also a well known fact that Canada has compromised itself in years past in order to keep the US Military at ease. A prime example is the AVRO ARRO incident. Canada produced a jet that would have been unrivaled at the time in terms of combat jets.
The US did not want to be out gunned by the Canadian Military and as a result placed a formal request to have the project scrapped. This was done without any problems as Canada decided to keep to its practice as being the "Peace Makers" of the world.
Oh....and HALF the country is NOT French. Its one stupid province and they have been whining about seperation for years so the rest of Canada doesn't really care to much about them either!

We are part of several Mutual Protection Pacts with Canada that obligate us to come to their defense in the event they are attacked and vice versa. Most notably is NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) which was formed as a counter to the Soviet Unions forming of the Warsaw Pact.

Of course.
They are on our border and a friend. If they got attacked and were taken over, that would give the people taking over very easy access to strategic targets and American infrastructure.

A lot of the infrastructure connects with Canada.Roads and highways, rivers, trains and electricity could be affected.Giving the "aggressor" access to this would weaken our border, our economy, and our presence in the Western Hemisphere.

They would have close range attack capability towards energy facilities, major landmarks, and densely populated urban areas.

yes we should. they have helped us. they have pm who is more inclined towards bush and have troops in the middle east. when we were attacked on 9/11, where do you think every single plane went when the prez shut down every air port in the united states? where do you think all the people stayed. the canadians opened their homes to complete stranges off of planes, thats where. i am not a canadian, i am an american, and in so saying, they have helped us. besides, if the canadians are attacked, the evil doers would have a rather huge foothold on our continent. we would have to protect americans, canadians, and our continent.

We are contractually obligated to do so. As per the inter-american treaty of reciprocal assistance. Mexico, Canada, and the US are obligated to help defend each other.
