illegal immigrants
Proposals would affect landlords, employers; some say rules would draw lawsuits

FARMERS BRANCH – Illegal immigrants are responsible for much of what's wrong with Farmers Branch, says City Council member Tim O'Hare.
So he proposes making it harder for illegal immigrants to live and work in the city.
Today, the City Council will discuss possible ways to do that, including prohibiting landlords from leasing to illegal immigrants, penalizing businesses that employ them, making English the city's official language and ceasing publication of any documents in Spanish, and eliminating subsidies for illegal immigrants in the city's youth programs.
Some Hispanic advocates say doing so would brand Farmers Branch as a racist community and embroil the city in protests and lawsuits.
"The reason I got on the City Council was because I saw our property values declining or increasing at a level that was below the rate of inflation," Mr. O'Hare said. "When that happens, people move out of our neighborhoods, and what I would call less desirable people move into the neighborhoods, people who don't value education, people who don't value taking care of their properties."
He also said local schools have dropped in recent years in state rankings, and retail operations cater to low-income and Spanish-speaking customers, leaving "no place for people with a good income to shop."
"Illegal immigrants are a large cause of it," he said.
So he wants to see the council adopt provisions similar to those adopted by Hazelton, Pa., in July and since then adopted or under consideration by other cities in Pennsylvania, California and Florida.
The 2000 census showed that 25.2 percent of the population of Farmers Branch was foreign-born. The census did not report how many were illegal immigrants.

It just amazes me that this is even an issue. The term "pro-illegal" makes me sick. How can someone support law breakers. I understand that lawyers have to defend those who break the law for the whole fair trial thing, but for someone to defend a law breaker when it is not their job to do it is just nuts. What's next? "Pro-child rapists" or "pro-bank robbers".
Do these people think they make a bit of sense????

"Some Hispanic advocates say doing so would brand Farmers Branch as a racist community and embroil the city in protests and lawsuits...." You gotta love it when people call you dirty names for wanting the laws enforced. This isn't about skin color, it's about the LAW, you know, that thing they apparently don't have any of in Mexico.
That sentiment, to my view, is complete and utter horsecrap. What a wonderful world it would be if all of these civically minded hispanic advocates would turn their attention to the root of the problem, which is and always has been Mexico, and maybe they could achieve some civil reforms there. What we've got now is a self-perpetuating mess, and indecision/incompetence ( amounts to the same thing) on the part of the various enforcement bodies and state legislatures and Congress.
Mexico needs reform. It'll NEVER happen until it's the only option left. Limbaugh should write a book called 'tough love' about this one, 'cause it's the bitter truth. What started out as a well-meaning gesture has now turned into a MESS, and I think we're about at the point where it's 'now or never' on immigration enforcement. For all the talk about 'defense' etc., our system seems to have a Really Hard Time with this one.
WHY is it that it's america's job to absorb decades' worth of Mexico's social problems? WHY is it that we're supposed to tolerate more and more influx without any kind of regulation whatsoever, WHY is it that Congress is more concerned with 'guest workers' and their friends in the produce industry than an apparent majority of american voters? Many questions, and nothing but 'aba-dee aba-dee aba-dee' from Congress.
The drugs come from Mexico. A fair percentage, maybe even a majority of the gangs that thrive off the drug trade come from Mexico. The ID theft is from...Mexico. So, how about it, Congress? Something's rotten in Denmark, and I hope that more and more people speak out and express their displeasure in writing to Congress. Email's free, and even if you write snail-mail, it still won't put you in the poor-house.
Yes, Mexico needs development. No, having Mexico move in is not the right way to do it. Nuff said.

ok, here's my answer to this non-question?
1. We all have the news and yahoo.com thanks for the copy paste AGAIN....
2. These are very racist bigeoted statements and it makes the us sound like we're getting ready for haulocust part II which will have no good results, I assure you
3. make sure you understand the difference between immigrants and illegal immigrants. Imagine if you were shipwrecked or something and washed up on the shore of some random land, you want to be ridiculed and banned and forced to leave (and probably die or be poor) just because you werent born and raised there?
Be very careful about how you treat issues like these, you make yourself look like an idiot if you take certain factors into account. And the messed up thing about it, is you're prolly eating food harvested by them right now because you're too white and good to work in that industry yourself.

A good income??? Ask them if they have been to the Mall lately...I went to the Mall to purchase an outfit for a funeral. This outfit was very plain. It was a black suit, jacket and skirt. The cost of this item was $190.00. AND this outfit was on SALE!! Then on top of that I had to buy a blouse to go under the jakcket which was another $38.00. Total: $228.00.
NOW, I'm a United States Citizen, I feel with a pretty good income. I carried that outfit around the store with me and kept saying to myself, Man That's A Lot of Money. I put the outfit back on the racks and off to Wal-Mart I went.
I got a very pretty outfit there for $72.00.
What I would like to know is this: What did any illegal immigrant have to do with any of the above??? NOTHING...
There is so much hatred and so much racism on God's great earth. I was never a racist and I will never be one. Everyone's color of their blood is red. Try looking into the heart of people instead of looking at the color of their skin or the slant of their eyes. Look into their eyes. Eyes say thousands of words and you don't have to say anything.
OH MY, I just read your name..You are the racist here!!!!! I believe in protecting our boarders but it is past time you got a life. Their are people on here that say you copyed and pasted this on your question. They seem to know you rather well. Man, I wasted my time. I will remember you!!!!!!!!!!

I think Farmers Branch has a wonderful idea! As soon as I read the paper I contacted the "elected class" in my town to see if they wouldn't follow suit. I fully intend to shop in Farmers Branch to show support.

I believe that if you're against the issue you should fight against the issue instead of taking shots at the people themselves. Also I'm a firm believer that people with the lowest self-esteem tend to be biased and prejudiced against minorities. Think about it, many racists are from poor hick towns who believe the reason they are poor is because of other people. I think instead of forbidding immigration, you should advocated LEGAL immigration and help people learn how to do it the right way. Afterall, we are all here because our ancestors immigrated here (unless you're Indian American).

you are going to be impregnated by a mexican cowboy and have little brown babies who will speak spanish, wear cheap clothes, and fart constantly from all the beans they eat. your parents in law will move into your low-rent house and you will have to take care of them even though they don't speak any english. and your husband will refuse to go down on you or use any more than 2 or 3 basic sexual positions. you will cook and clean and you know what? you're going to LOVE it. that is your destiny. sorry if that's hard to accept. ha ha ha ha hah ha hah ha
