The clearest difference of Buddhism vs. Christianity is that Buddhism is teachings meant for one to come to peace in oneself and with the world exactly as it is. Christianity teaches that the world is in a fallen state and that all who don't seek the help of God, by prayer and love and worship, will ultimately face destruction. You seem somewhat young, as you get older decide for yourself how life is and whether you need the help of God. In the meantime, you will find more support and identification with a religion that has been in Europe for many centuries, than something from far off Asia that the western world only heard of less than a hundred years ago.

I believe that everyone should believe on a Supreme Being. All religion aim to make you a better individual. All of them have teachings that will make you live in peace. Take the 10 commandments for instance. Come to think of it though, many Christians break one , two, or three of these commandments. There are flaws in every religion but it is better to have one. It doesn't matter which one it is. There are lots of things in our existence that can't be explained by science, and it will make you crazy if you don't believe in Someone who is beyond the capabilities of a human being, to make things happen or to make things how they are.

I'm not of any faith, because all that seems to come out of any body's belief is harm, all the people in the world that follow any religion is to try and force it down someone else's throat. so i say believe in yourself and tell everybody else bollocks. After all we are here because of natural selection, and not from a single being with a sick sense of humor.

Christianity = the death of logical thought. It closes the door to your mind and opens the door to righteous indignation, coerced conformity, moral disapproval based on the whims of the religeous collective and not your own conscience nor truly humane compassion.
Dunno if that was enlightening or not...

I was going to answer "to make Christians happy" but after reading the details that is really what is pushing you towards it. Tell your mother not to throw pearls before swine and look into the Buddha Dude. That is just my opinion, but I think it would make you happiest.

Ultimately, it comes down to one thing:
What do *YOU* think?
Don't bother joining any religious group to satisfy others or because anyone else feels strongly about it- there's nothing more personal and it's ultimately your choice alone- whether Buddhist, Sikh, Atheist, Christian, Muslim, Hindu or just plain undecided... :)

I think you should defanently go with your gut and become a Buddhist. People will tell you that you'll go to hell if you don't believe like them, but those are their beliefs, not yours. Do what makes you happy.
