Wear spandex shorts when you run. Cotton shorts, polyester shorts and mixed fabrics all lead to bunching and friction; I know from my jogging experience. Legs in spandex will slide past each other with little friction and are "breathable".

It's your sweat that makes the rash worse. You need to get rid of the moisture, but regular shorts trap it. Spandex doesn't.

If your reaction is "spandex is for homosexuals", get past it. I'm not suggesting you wear them 24/7 or go to work in them, just try them at the gym and for running. At the track, in the weight room, or among 200 other runners, nobody is going to notice or care. (Or do you have the misfortune of living in a community of idiots who all think "spandex = gay"?)

I've met many who "think" that way about men wearing spandex for exercise, so it warrants my saying it. I'm not being antagonistic toward you.

To prevent chafing, try some body glide. It's formulated for preventing chafing, so it should work better than Vaseline. You also might try shorts with a built in brief. That saves an extra layer of material rubbing against you. The shorts with the built in lining also wick a lot better to keep your body dry. Stay away from cotton! Cotton holds in the moisture and moisture leads to chafing.

Go to long tightie-whities. They are 100% cotton and will absorb the moisture of your legs. Also, try putting some talc with cornstarch in the area. It's like diaper rash; at night use some ointment with zinc in it to clear it up. Keeping the friction and the moisture down will help. Check out the sports wear section for special shorts that let your legs breathe.

Buy some spandex that sticks to your leg. I play soccer and when need spandex to do the same thing. Lotion and powders help heal the skin when you get chaffing
