DON'T DO IT!!! He is 1 years old!!!! Children are SUPPOSED to be hyper. You have to help them understand how to control, however. When I was little, I was probably the most hyper child you could have met, but my mom REFUSED to take me to the doctor for it. IN FACT, when I went to the doctor for check-ups the doctor WOULD SUGGEST for me to have ritalin. My mom REFUSED. She said she wasn't going to change who I was, just because I was hyper. She said she liked me like that and didn't want to "calm" me down. Don't do it....it's so MEAN/WRONG/RUDE to medicate a child, who is just being a CHILD!

Your child may be active for several reasons. He may be bored or need some structure in his day to day activities. My son was a very active child, and at 4 years old they said he was still too young for it, but they were going to put him on medicine for ADHD. He is now 8 and in the 4 years he was on medicine, we had problems with him sleeping at night but the ADHD medicine made him sleepy during school hours. It has been a total nightmare!! I have taken him off all his meds, and he acts like a normal active little boy. He sleeps at night like he should and he might be a little more active than most kids, but we keep him on a schedule with daily activities and he is doing just great. So my advice is just get a schedule you can both live with and let him be a little boy!!

ADHD is the most hereditary mental illness (yes it is a mental illness) there is.
1year is too old for an actual diagnosis. A true diagnosis should not be made until the child is at least 5 years old by a medical professional only.
I won't worry too much...Just figure out a way to help your child in the mean time. Before My child was medicated I used to stop my child have him look me in the eye and we would take 3 deep breaths together. This helps for a few minutes at least.

At 1 there is nothing to worry about. He is a normal growing and curious child and his activities is a sure sign that he is well.
Definately DO NOT put him on meds later on. What you can do now is ensure that he has a proper diet rich in friuts and vegetables. Do not give him refined sugars or sweets or any of those sweet cereals. They sure do make kids hyperactive. All the best.

I honestly believe that very few people have ADD/ADHD. I bet if you change his diet it will help.
No sugar
No processed food
Lots of fresh fruit and veggies and whole grains

He may just be hyperactive. Enjoy him how he is. I would definitely wait until he is in school to concern yourse;lf with this.
