I think it would be wise to build up to a 72 hour fast. I have only done a 40 hour fast, and that was 20 years ago. I think you have to use wisdom and not risk dehydration - depending on where you live, as well.

It see this is 10 years old but 3 days is not a big deal. Until a month ago, I had never gone more than 24 hours. I decide to do 72 hours (more like 68) so dinner Sunday to mid afternoon Wednesday followed by 4 hour window intermittent fasting until the next sunday. The first 3 day fast was only 2 days long, strong nausea and dry heaves - I think electrolyte issues due to potassium wasting diuretic meds. The next 3 weeks brought 3 more fasts, 2 were 3 days and the last was 4 days. No problems except low potassium (due to a potassium wasting diuretic I was taking, now stopped for good). Next week will be the 5th fast for 4 or 5 days depending on how low the blood pressure goes. On the last day of the fasts I need to not take any blood pressure meds and my bp is 90s/60s.
I do not work back up to eating but go right back to lower carb full bore, all the usual stuff, when the fast is over. I haven't had any issues at all doing it that way.

That is a 3 day fast without water. Wow!! Our family has gone on The Lemonade Diet before but that can be a 5 day fast or 10 day fast. You drink lots of homemade lemonade with a pinch of cayenne pepper and pancake syrup (the expensive one). The Lemonade Diet is for cleansing the bowels. You also drink a special hot tea. It is very effective. I lost 5 pounds a day for three days in a row. One should be very healthy before going on it.
When you come out of it, you have to gradually start eating solid foods again. Google it if you are interested:
The Lemonade Diet.
It must take a lot of guts to do what you did because water is essential to all human beings. Here is a suggestion:
Eat raw fruits and vegetables and make sure they are organic.
Stay completely away from junk food including sweets and ice cream, in other words, all the good stuff we like.
Your body will improve drastically and most of the toxins that are in there will come out.
Good Luck, man. Try to drink some water OK?

rules of three 3 weeks without food 3 days without water and 3 minutes without air you will die but thats only if it is contiuious for the whole three weeks without food if u eat something that breaks the fast and u have nurishment for your body very little and you can get sick from fasting I for one get migraines if i don't eat or skips meals so 72 hours wouldn't be a good idea for people who have low blood sugar or dieabetes
however muslims do fast for like a whole month but that's only during the day at night they eat so it wouldn't be wise not to eat at all becos then thats just crash dieting and you get sick that way
as for water you body thrives on it so why would someone not drink it for three days or even for one day you should really look in to what you do with your body try a doctor and maybe a shrink too cos you sound alittle off your rocker

The reason for fasting according to scripture, is to have food left over for the poor. Isaiah 58:6-10
"I require mercy, not sacrifice." Mat 12:7

I fasted for 14 days. The first 3 days were the hardest then after wards e-a-s-y. I drank water and tea. Matter of fact it was difficult for me to began eating again. I prayed thru out the fast and at the end of the fast my prayer was answered.

I never have it is way hard. But people who go to my church have. They do it a lot. Like every 2 months or so before we have Holy Communion. I go seven gays from morning to about 4 or 5.
We do it with no water and food also. Some such as Muslims do drink water however.

I have, and felt terrible by the end of it. You can live without food for two weeks, but it is not medically recommended that you go without water.
Besides, water is okay during fasting.

Hmmm, I would say that how you approach this fast all depends on your health situation. However, I have heard of some people doing a spiritual fast with prayer and meditation only ingesting water and juices.
