atkins is a failure diet like most fad diets.
you only lose maybe up to 40lbs and you lose bone and muscle density.
and it's not good for the heart.
you need carbs... and it's a lie that carbs make you fat.
first of all the atkins diet is high in fat, cholesterol... which is real nasty on the circulatory system.
best diet is the current food pyramid diet. why? because it's a diet that is suppose to be heeded daily for the rest of your life.
more veggies, alot of fruits... minimal fats and sweets. moderate dairy and moderate meats and poultry.
much in the hydration also you must drink those fluids, clear and stay away from sodas, fast food, snacks.. all those have many preservatives and additives in it that will pack on the pounds over time due to the inert material that is in the foods to sustain it's shelf life.
stay away from the atkins diet, too many i known did it for long periods and one i know had an heart attack and got yelled at about his choice of diet and 2 others had strokes because of it.
they were both put on the sensible life long diet.. which is represented via the food pyramid.
just follow that and remember it's not the fats, carbs or sugars.. (but you must moderate that for health and heart) it's the calories.
atkins has a limit. and honestly you'll feel tired and weak from it over a period of time, most do.
limit your oils too by the way!
oh and of course exercise! don't have to do all that athletic crap just 30 minutes a day for 3 to 4 days a week is good. also take the stairs instead the elevator and the corner store or your friends house? nah don't take the car take a bike or a walk.
it really does help in the long run... and this diet has more variety and is much more healthy over all, helps with diabetes and you'll feel better, keep the weight off and the blood pressure down.
along with not having to get sick and tired of a schedual and limited foods.
anyone who promotes atkins is either not doing it, just started or is advertising for it. don't do it, you will not do well from it. most fail from it (note some of the celebrities who did it) and went to another program (of course which fails also) those who do the life long plan of sensible eating with the proper amount of fiber and minerals does much better. you got to feed your body the variety it needs and keep active it is nessesary... it is an absolute if you don't you'll put the weight back on twice as much or you'll get sick.

I have personally done the atkins diet. It is one thing to read something in a book and it is another to try it. I love the atkins diet it can get very frustrating when you get cravings but you lose weight like crazy. Try to not eat so much red meat eat more chicken and fish.
You are going to feel all down and out for the first 3-5 days because your body is going from burning glucose as your main fuel to burning fat.
Make sure you take a good multi vitamin and check your ketosis level. This will motivate you to keep going.
Too start just DO IT! There is no right or wrong way to start just start it. Make sure to keep a log of what you eat, this will serve as a reference to how it was before. Good Luck.
If you have any questions e mail me at wario1998@yahoo.com. I have been on this for a little over 3 months now.

BE CAREFUL. Any diet plan that tells you to cut out entire food groups can and will be hazardous to your health. The Atkins Diet is dangerous for two reasons: (1) You eat foods that are high in saturated fat, which leads to heart disease, and (2) You cut out carbohydrates, which your body needs -- not to mention the nutrients in carbohydrate-based foods. How would you like a diet plan that doesn't require you to completely give up the foods you love? How about a diet plan that's easy to follow and doesn't require you to buy exotic foods/ingredients? How about one that's 100% safe and has proven results? If you want all three of these things but still want to lose weight, go to your nearest book store and invest in a copy of The Abs Diet. You can't miss it -- the cover is bright orange. It's a common-sense approach to diet and exercise. Why am I recommending it? Simple. I lost over 20 pounds in a month and have successfully kept it off using The Abs Diet. It's worth checking out.

The Atkins diet omits carbs which is what we need for energy,so if you did try it you would probably find yourself permanently tired. Smaller portions and lots of fruit and veg should help you loose weight. Faddy diets are just a way to get people to spend more money. Sensible eating and exercise is all you need.

To start the diet, you will need to stay off any carbonhydrate for 2 weeks. This is the induction phase. After that, you are allow a low level of carbonhydrate. Make sure you take twice the daily recommended vitamin supplement. I was taking 2 Centrum daily to deal with potential health issue such as heart valves misfiring.

Yes- I did it, lost 2 stone and weight stayed off (until I got pregnant!) I found it really easy, tho my husband was SO fed up of the smell of bacon! I wasn't too obsessive (i never checked to see if I had gone into ketosis) and I made sure I ate the max amount of fruit and veg allowed daily.
It was relly good to shift the weight, though I did not stay on it for ages.

Its the best diet ever!!!
any diet that lets you have bacon and eggs or steak can't be all bad.
Its just the standard theory of:-
Eat Meat (don't eat carbohydrates)
Eat Carbohydrates (don't eat meat)
simple but effective.
