Can anyone recommend a good MAC software to encode mp3s?
Or to convert the iTune format to mp3.
Thanks in advance.

You can switch iTunes to rip into MP3s.

1.) Go to the iTunes menu --> Preferences.
2.) Click on the Advanced button, then click on Importing.
3.) Click on Import Using, and then select 'MP3 Encoder'
4.) Under Setting, select a quality setting or select Custom to use a higher bitrate

Now, to convert your music to MP3, there's basically two options. One is to delete all of your AAC (iTunes default format) music and re-rip it as MP3s. Takes time and effort, but the quality will be better.
The other is to select all of your songs, and then go to the Advanced menu and select Convert Selection to MP3. More time efficient, but you lose some quality.

iTunes does it. Goto you preferences, select advanced, select importing, then under import using, change it to mp3, then select the rate 192 being the best quality. Then select ok. Now all you have to do is if you want to convert a song from iTunes format, select the song then click on advanced from the menu bar and select "convert selection to mp3. That's it. This will NOT work for protected songs bought from iTunes music store.

You are not permitted to change AAC to MP3 because that would be removing the DRM, which is against the terms of use. You can only import CD's to MP3.

If you want to convert the protected songs you have to burn them to a music CD in itunes, then rip the tracks in your desired format from that same cd and rename them.
