Old Mother Twitchet is a needle, and her tail is a thread because when you stitch you leave some thread in her "eye".

Um... What is the question? Do you want to know how Old Mother Twitchet was able to leave a bit of a tail in a trap, or what Old Mother Twitchet was, or why there were traps in every gap?
