Persecution is part of it.

The Gospel is about losing our old/sinful nature and putting on the new nature of Jesus Christ. Being renewed the transforming of our mind. (Romans 12:2) By doing this we must crucify or kill our flesh and not give in to it's evil desires. This is the cost, it's not easy to do. Jesus told those whom He healed, "Go, sin no more". Why do you think He would say that if it weren't possible? That's our goal. we can only achieve this level if we absolutely surrender to God and live completely according to the Spirit.

This is a very serious issue that most Christians do not recognize. we are a new creation in Christ Jesus, we are not our own anymore.

St. Augustine, one of the greatest Christian thinkers of all time said, "Being a Christian is not only coming to Christ, it's also walking with Him."

The "cost" refers to the price you'll pay for not accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. What is that cost, an eternaty in hell. Eternal life is granted to those who through faith believe. My Pastor states it as simple as A, B, C. Admitt that you are a sinner and have fallen short of the grace of God. Believe that God sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins and be resurrected. Jesus paid that price that we can't repay for our sinfull nature. And C, committ your life to following Jesus and building a relationship with Him through pray and the Word.

Choosing Christ is a decision that must eliminate other parts of our lives. Not everyone is willing to give up those other parts to serve God with complete devotion.

Persecution and humiliation is one; another is the fact that we must give up sinning, including all things and people we've previously idolized.

It means to "understand" what you are about to do. It is foolish to start something-and then stop because you did not fully understand the requirements.

We all have eternal life. There is no such thing as sin and hell. Those are man made terms, not God made.

That is part of it. Also, giving up old ways, old friends, rejection by family, etc.
