Not all types of lung cancer travel to the brain. My mom just recently died of lung cancer, and i am a medical lab technologist and a homecare nurse. My mothers was a mass tumor in her left lung then it spread to her lymph nodes which is very common then to her bones, not all progress to the brain.

it explains how your type of cancer spreads through the body, and it will give you a more detailed picture of what is going on with your cells.

it has to do with either the lymphatic drainage or vascular circulation, my guess is for a lung CA, it would spread through the blood stream, as lymph doesn't drain upwards from the lungs into the brain, lungs are downstream from the brain, so it's more likely it would metastasize elsewhere before reaching the brain.

tumor cells get into the bloodstream, and implant new tumors wherever they may land.

Brain mets are usually a sign of a stage 4 or terminal cancer, and prognosis is usually not very good at that point.

My husband was diagnosed March 20th passed away June 6th. No symptoms He thought he hurt his back at work. He had a tumor on his spine which we did radiation on. Then chemo for the lung. But he also had a tumor on the brain. They did a gamma knife procedure. It is a one time treatment that is pretty sucessful. You might want to check into that. God Bless and good luck. Also he tried a new drug TARCEVA It is very expensive but it has good statistics.

Most cancers can spread to the brain. Colon cancer does not reoccur in the colon but goes to the liver, lungs and brain. Lung cancer can go to other places but usually goes to the brain. Even lymphoma goes to the brain.

Its by a process called METASASIS which means tumour cells some time get dislodged from the site and reach different other sites by the blood, and get lodged at the new site and produce signs and symptoms.
