I work for a Catholic organization, I'm not a Catholic myself but I never put down their beliefs, even though I disagree with alot of them.
I invited alot of my co-workers and my bosses to my wedding in September and not one of them can come because I am not getting married in the Catholic church or by a priest, but by a magistrate. And the only reason that we have to have a magistrate marry us is the pastor of my church wouldn't marry us because he says that we are "unequally yoked" meaning that my fiancé was not baptized in my church. That's what he said, but the real reason is that I dated his son 3 years ago and his son never dated anyone after that. Anyways under the circumstances we can't get married in a church. Should these "catholics" be more understanding? How can they think that our marriage won't be legitimate? It's supposed to be between me and Jon and God, not me and Jon and the priest, right? The whole thing has made me dislike organized religion all the more.

As for putting Catholics down, I was put down by "Catholic Christians" saying that they can't come to my wedding becasue it is not of God! That is not very "christian"

My fiancé is a believer but wasn't baptized in my chruch, therefore my pastor wouldn't marry us because he didn't belong to the same church as me. Just so we have this straight. It's not like I'm marrying a atheist or pagan or something like that.

I think people from all religions sometimes have "tunnel vision" about their own religions. For example, one of my neighbors is a Born Again Christian, and she has made me feel bad on more than one occasion for not going to church like 7 days a week. I say just ignore them and celebrate your own beliefs. Don't let them make you feel bad about it. The Catholic Church has a lot of contingencies about marriage, and even though I am technically Catholic I do not agree with everything they say. I think it is creepy that you are being shunned by your co-workers, but you are better off finding out now rather than later what kind of people they are. If they don't want to come to your wedding no matter where it is just to support this important life event with you, then sorry but they are not real friends.

First and foremost congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Second, I appreciate your honesty as to the disagreeing with some of our beliefs. You do not mentioned what denomination of Christianity you practice, although to me is does not matter. If you feel that the pastor of your church was wrong you should plead your case to his higher authority (In Catholicism it is the Bishop). I personally am a catholic who at one time considered myself a non-practicing catholic. I have recently returned to the church and have been going through a re-familiarization era with the Catholic faith. I have attended weddings of all denominations must recently a family friend of over twenty years who i just recently found out was a Lutheran. Actually, I as watched and listened to the sermon and the ceremony, they seemed to be lacking; seemed to be laid back; like something was missing. That does not mean I looked "down" on it, but rather I realized that something "sacred" was missing! In Catholicism we believe in the seven sacraments that touch all the stages and all the important moments of the Christian Life. Birth (Baptism), maturing (Confirmation), Strengthening by food and drink (Eucharist) repair and restoration (Penance), service to others(Matrimony and Holy Orders) and preparation for death Anointing of the Sick). These Sacraments the Catholic church can trace through Apostolic Secession, which connects the Church today to the Christ who walked the earth 2000 years ago. As for the part of about "you Jon and God and not you Jon and the priest", Catholics believe that the priesthood exsits particularly for the Eucharist, because in the Eucharist is when they exercise in a supreme degree thier scared office acting "en persona Christo", or translated in the person of Christ. In otherwords the Priest is Christ's representative on earth while in performance of duties which is conferred to them by their Bishop by a scaramental act calle "ordination", that is the Sacrement of Holy Orders. This is more and likely why some your catholic coworkers may haved elected not to participate in your wedding.

Firstly, Catholics of almost all religions have no right to look down on people (Don't even get me started...)

Secondly, I'm devoutly religious, belong to a fairly strict belief system, and have gone to a non-religious wedding before. If anything, I would hesitate to go to one that is religious for fear of offending God by being in another church.

Your pastor (regardless of his personal reasons) is Biblically correct in what he said. The Bible says to marry "only in the Lord". Marriages based on common religious belief are much stronger. And with the strain that marriages are under today you'll need every advantage you can get.

I think it's an overreaction to all the put downs and persecutions we get because we are Catholic. When asked I say I am a Christian because that is what all the other denominations answer. And also because I am sick of people saying "You're Catholic? I'M A CHRISTIAN" Like I'm not?

I don't ever put down my brothers and sisters in Christ I think it's wrong and that by putting down other Christians we hurt ourselves.

You are dealing with two separate issues here.

One: The Roman Catholic priest won't marry you. That is the rule of their religion and that's all there is to it. Move On.

Two: A Protestant pastor who follows the teachings of the Bible will not perform the ceremony between a believer and an unbeliever because the Bible, God's Word, speaks against it.

2Co 6:14 Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?
2Co 6:15 What agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?
2Co 6:16 And what agreement does God's sanctuary have with idols? For we are the sanctuary of the living God, as God said: I will dwell among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.

God is telling us that we will have a difficult road living together when we believe differently. One of you is going to compromise your beliefs.

If you believe God, then trust Him that He knows what He is doing and do not marry someone who believes the opposite that you believe.

You are correct, it is between you and God; listen to Him.

I'm Catholic & I've attended a Jewish wedding a few years ago(& will be attending one again next month, to the sister of the first bride's wedding).

As one poster pointed out to you, its not just strict Catholics, but, alot of strict religious people will not attend weddings or other religious ceremonies outside their own. For example, some Chassidic Jews will not attend non-Jewish weddings or ceremonies.

That's the big thing with the catholics. They are set up so that you can't get to heaven without them. All of us unwashed sinners can and will burn in hell, as far as they're concerned. Nice, eh? Not. Just go ahead with your life and ignore them. Consider them sad little, spiritually stunted dwarfs of religion. Pray for them. Congrats on the wedding. Have a great life.

Antichrist:

Mathew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
10:36 And a man's foes [shall be] they of his own household.
10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
10:40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
10:41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

Da2:1 And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him.
2:2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to show the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.
2:3 And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.
2:4 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.
2:5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.
2:6 But if ye show the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore show me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.
2:7 They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation of it.
2:8 The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.
2:9 But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, [there is but] one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can show me the interpretation thereof.
2:10 The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's matter: therefore [there is] no king, lord, nor ruler, [that] asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.
2:11 And [it is] a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
2:12 For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise [men] of Babylon.
2:13 And the decree went forth that the wise [men] should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.
2:14 Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise [men] of Babylon:
2:15 He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why [is] the decree [so] hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.
2:16 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would show the king the interpretation.
2:17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:
2:18 That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise [men] of Babylon.
2:19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
2:20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
2:21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
2:22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what [is] in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
2:23 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast [now] made known unto us the king's matter.
2:24 Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise [men] of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise [men] of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will show unto the king the interpretation.
2:25 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.
2:26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name [was] Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?
2:27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise [men], the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, show unto the king;
2:28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;
2:29 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came [into thy mind] upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
2:30 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for [any] wisdom that I have more than any living, but for [their] sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.
2:31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness [was] excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof [was] terrible.
2:32 This image's head [was] of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,
2:33 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.
2:34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet [that were] of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.
2:35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
2:36 This [is] the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.
2:37 Thou, O king, [art] a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
2:38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou [art] this head of gold.
2:39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
2:40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all [things]: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
2:41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
2:42 And [as] the toes of the feet [were] part of iron, and part of clay, [so] the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
2:43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, [but] it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
2:45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream [is] certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
2:46 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.
2:47 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth [it is], that your God [is] a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.
2:48 Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise [men] of Babylon.

Daniel receives another vision
from God that repeats what he
was shown before but
adds more detail.

Daniel 7:1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, [and] told the sum of the matters.
7:2 Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.
7:3 And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another.
7:4 The first [was] like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.
7:5 And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and [it had] three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.
7:6 After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.
7:7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it [was] diverse from all the beasts that [were] before it; and it had ten horns.
7:8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn [were] eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

BUT Daniel asks the angel to
tell him more about the
little horn power.

Daniel 7:15 I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of [my] body, and the visions of my head troubled me.
7:16 I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.
7:17 These great beasts, which are four, [are] four kings, [which] shall arise out of the earth.
7:18 But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.
7:19 Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth [were of] iron, and his nails [of] brass; [which] devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet;
7:20 And of the ten horns that [were] in his head, and [of] the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even [of] that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look [was] more stout than his fellows.
7:21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;
7:22 Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.
7:23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
7:24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom [are] ten kings [that] shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.
7:25 And he shall speak [great] words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
7:26 But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy [it] unto the end.
7:27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom [is] an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

5. Has a man at its head
(eyes & mouth of a man)
The pope provides vision for the Catholic church and speaks "ex cathedra" to the church on behalf of God.
"This living transmission, accomplished in the Holy
Spirit, is called Tradition, since it is distinct from Holy
Scripture, though closely connected to it"...

..."As a result, the Church does not derive her certainty
about all revealed truths from the holy Scriptures alone.
Both Scripture and Tradition must be accepted and
honored [equally]."

..."The task of interpreting the Word of God [Scripture &
Tradition] authentically has been entrusted solely to the
Magesterium of the Church, that is, to the Pope and the
bishops..."

-- Catechism of the Catholic Church, articles 78, 82, 85, 100. April 1995

Tradition vs Scripture???

"In vain do they worship Me,
teaching as doctrines the precepts
of men. Neglecting the commandment
of God, you hold to the tradition of men."
-- Mark 7:7-8

Can only priests interpret
the Bible correctly?

"Now these [Bereans] were more
noble minded than those in
Thessalonica, for they received
the word with great eagerness,
examining the scriptures daily,
to see whether these things were so."

Acts 17:11

6. Persecutes God's People
At least 50 Million people were killed by Papal authority during the Dark Ages
"The church may by divine right confiscate
the property of heretics, imprison their
person, and condemn them to the flames.
In our age, the right to inflict the severest
penalties, even death, belongs to the church.
There is no graver offense than heracy,
therefore it must be rooted out."

7. Different Than Other 10 Horns

The Vatican is a Religio-Political
entity with legal authority over
very few, but with eccliastical
authority over almost
a billion people !!

8. Speaks Blasphemies Against God

The Bible defines blasphemy as:

1. A man claiming to be God
(John 10:33)

2. Claimimg the ability to
forgive sin (Luke 5:21)

"we hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty" pope leo xiii

A man claiming to be God...

"The Pope is not only the
representative of Jesus
Christ, but he is Jesus
Christ, Himself, hidden
under the veil of flesh."
-- Catholic National, July 1895

A man claiming to forgive sin...
"...you will find but one created being
who can forgive the sinner, who can
free him from the chains of hell,...the
Roman Catholic priest...the priest not
only declares that the sinner is forgiven but he really forgives him...So great
is the power of the priest that the
judgements of Heaven itself are subject
to his decision."

Time = 1 Year (Daniel 4:16, 25, 34)
Times = 2 Years
1/2 a Time = 1/2 Year
3-1/2 Years = 42 Months = 1260 Days
(Revelation 12:6,14, 13:5) 1260 Days = 1260 Years
(Ezekiel 4:5, Num 14:34)

Revelation of Jesus Christ 13:1-9
13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as [the feet] of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
13:4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who [is] like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months.
13:6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
13:9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.

The founders of
the modern Protestant
churches knew who the
Anti-Christ was:

Martin Luther
(1483-1546)
~Lutheran~
"We here are of the conviction that the
Papacy is the seat of the true and real
Antichrist...personally, I declare that
I owe the Pope no other obedience than
that to Antichrist." (1520)
- The Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers, Froom

John Calvin
(1509-1564)
~Presbyterian~"Some persons think us too severe
and sensious when we call the
Roman pontiff Antichrist... I shall briefly show that Paul's words
(2 Thess. 2) are not capable of any
other interpretation than that which
applies them to the Papacy." - Institutes

John Knox
(1505-1572)
~Presbyterian~"...[the Pope] should be recognized
as the very Antichrist, and the son
of perdition, of whom Paul speaks."
- The Zurich Letters

Cotton Mather
(1663-1728)
~Cogregationalist~"The oracles of God foretold the rising of
an Antichrist in the Christian Church; and
in the Pope of Rome, all the characteristics
of that Antichrist are so marvelously answered, that if any who read the Scriptures do not see
it, there is a marvelous blindness upon them."
- The Fall of Babylon

Thomas Cranmer
(1489-1556)
~Anglican~"Whereof it followeth Rome to be the
seat of antichrist, and the pope to be
very antichrist himself. I could prove
the same by many other scriptures, old
writers, and strong reason." - Works

John Wesley
(1703-1791)
~Methodist~"He [the Pope] is in an emphatical sense,
the Man of Sin...and he is, too, properly
styled as the Son of Perdition...He it is that
exalteth himself above all that is called God... claiming the perogatives which belong
to God alone."
- Antichrist and His Ten Kingdoms

Roger Williams
(1603-1683)
1st Baptist Pastor in America
"[The Pope is] the pretended Vicar of Christ
on earth, who sits as God over the Temple of
God, exalting himself... over the Spirit of Christ,
over the Holy Spirit, yea and God himself... thinking to change times and laws: but
he is the son of perdition."
- The Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers, Froom.

What is the
ultimate purpose
of the antichrist?

To take our
eyes off of
Christ &
Him crucified

For there is
salvation in
no one else.
-Acts 4:12

BUT THERE IS MORE TO KNOW ABOUT DEVIL, FALSE PROPHETS.

BAPTISM
Mathew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.

We should not baptize and we should not be baptized until we have learned the bible and fully understood who is God the father-Jehovaah, God the son- Yeshua(Jesus) & God the holy ghost- the holy Angels.

Let me explain. Read all written below.

5:1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, [but he was] a leper.
5:2 And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife.
5:3 And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord [were] with the prophet that [is] in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.
5:4 And [one] went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that [is] of the land of Israel.
5:5 And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand [pieces] of gold, and ten changes of raiment.
5:6 And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have [therewith] sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.

5:9 So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.
5:10 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.
5:11 But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.
5:12 [Are] not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.
5:13 And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, [if] the prophet had bid thee [do some] great thing, wouldest thou not have done [it]? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?
5:14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

In this manner the washing away of our sins is must but not until we have faith.

3:1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
3:2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3:3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
3:4 And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
3:5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
3:6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
3:9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to [our] father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
So the message of the Elijah- John the Baptist is also similar that repent and be baptized.

Repent of your sins.

How many types of baptism.- only one baptism.

Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
4:6 One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.
4:7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
4:10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

procedure of baptism:

John 3:23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.

So there has to be much water needed for baptism.

Significance of the baptism:

Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Therefore the significance of BAPTISM (the word baptizo in Greek means submerged, dipped) is that as Christ died and his dead body was put in the grave and was raised from the dead similarly we who are dead in our sins significantly our put to death under water and raised to new life in Christ.

Importance of Baptism:
Public declaration of our relationship with Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Amen
