What exactly is the difference between Marines and the Navy? Aren't they all on ships doing the same stuff?

The Marines are now almost entirely an elite land infantry. They're historically connected to the Navy as they started as small groups assigned to ships, but they moved from that to amphibious assault specialists; since we usually land troops from helicopters now rather than landing ships, Marines don't have that much to do with ships anymore. They might ride a troop ship to a deployment somewhere, but so do soldiers in the Army.

Marines are infantry arm of the Navy. They are the ones who do the fighting on land.

I wuz in the navy, marines were like the naval police to me. But they gotta "storm the beaches" where sailors patrol the waters and provide shipping and transport.

Marines consists mainly of people. Whereas Navy consists mainly of people and ships working together.
