Yes, no matter who they are or what they have done I respect their humanity and the struggle we all face. I don't have to respect their actions, or their beliefs.

Of course they are... it's only when you introduce religion that people become disrespectful and intolerant.

Sure every person was has worth as a human being, but not every person deserves respect. It depends what they do with what they're worth. If some idiot decides that they will use whatever "they're worth" to kill and destroy other people because they don't agree with him and doesn't think other people deserve to live, sorry, that person has just lost my respect.
Only naive people think that everybody deserves respect. Respect is earned, not something you're born with.

Yes, every person deserves respect until they prove otherwise. If you do not respect and love your neighbor you will be going against what you hold divine, regardless of what religion you are. We cannot judge others based on our beliefs.

Who are we to say that their beliefs are wrong? We must respect all peace loving individuals regardless of what name they call God!

As human beings, we are all deserving of common courtesy and human dignity. Anyone who has done things to merit a "sub-human" classification (ie remorseless serial killers) deserve to die.

It is up to God to pass final judgement on a person, and until he does we must treat that person as if they could become a believer and leave behind their sinful ways. If they do, it still doesn't release them from the consequences of those actions, but when punishment and restitution are finished with, they can look to God for a clean conscience.

Do you respect rapists or child molesters? How about grossly negligent parents? Or those who pick substance abuse over loved ones?

The question is assinine and based in simple-minded idealism. Of course not every person deserves respect. And "worth" is so vague a term as to be insignificant.

No. Respect is earned.

However, every person deserves a chance to earn respect and therefore has great worth.

We desperately need more respectable people.

Every Person Has Worth.
Respect is Earned....

No - Respect has to be earned and I will be polite to everyone, but I will not respect them unless they show that they are worthy of being respected.

Some people, by their actions, show that they are worthless and do not deserve respect. People who lie and cheat and inflict suffering on others are worthless. In Africa we have politicians like Robert Mugabe who are causing huge suffering and can not be respected. The South African minister of health has hired a bunch of alternative shamans who say that AIDs can be cured with a diet of beetroot, african potato, garlic and olive oil. In spite of the evidence that her methods are useless she sticks to her lies and people die.

I believe that rapists, murderers and terrorists have by their actions, resigned from civilisation. People like that are no longer worthy of respect and should be treated like rabid animals and put down.

Yes that is right...we are all human and make many mistakes...all of us no matter what your belief is.
We should love our neighbor and respect them,
and you expect them to do the same.
If not then you can feel sorry for them but still show respect, maybe later on they will change for the good.

I believe every person has worth but those that don't respect others or Nature I don't respect. I have no respect for child molesters, mass murderers, or others who it would seem their only worth to us all is to be an example of how not to be.
