At activity functions that you enjoy. Then you automatically have something in common. For instance, dance classes; or bowling leagues; think of something you always wanted to do and get involved. If you're a woman, take an auto mechanics class (lots of guys there); if you're a guy, how about ceramics or knitting? Remember Rosie Greer? He was a linebacker that use to knit for stress. Who was gonna call him a sissie? Then you can always to the bar thing; just make sure it's not a sweat-shop for young girls to bump and grind cause you won't get anywhere like that. I'm talking neighborhood, good-old-music bar. Enjoy yourself!

Actually church is not a very convenient place to meet people anyways. Not for me. It doesn't matter where you are, you have to be outgoing, or run into someone outgoing, and I don't think outgoing people necessarily congregate in one place.
