Ha ha, I know this sounds like a really dumb question, but my kitten likes to sit on me, and her butt reeks which can put a shitty scent on my clothes, etc. There isnt any crap on her, and I know that buttholes stink, but I have had cats before and they never had such a strong smell. What could I do to remedy this. I would appreciate not getting all smartass replies either.

I work at a vet and Nikki T & Kelly C are both right. Do not listen to old cat lady's suggestion of baby wipes though, that can make the kitten sick when it does groom itself to injest those chemicals. Try using a warm cloth to simulate it's mother grooming it. If that doesn't work, the kitten made need to see your vet because it could have a problem with it's anal glands. All cats & dogs have anal glands that usually empty each time your pet has a bowel movement but some animals (and it's more common than you think!) need to have them emptied on a regular basis by a vet. It only takes a few minutes and unless your kitten is a holy terror, the vet should be able to do it without any trouble. There is a possibility it's the kitten's diet. If the food he or she is eating has a high amount of protien that can cause smelly bottoms. Check what the protien source is in the food (either chicken or beef usually) and try something different. At my clinic we seem to have people complain about smelly kittens if they are on Hill's Science Diet foods. They have a high protein amount so we recommend switching to Iams or Eukanuba. I fed my kitten Iams and she never had a problem. Hope this helps!!

p.s.-What does your kitten look like? Kittens are sooo adorable!

nice that he's fixed but here's a little secret. they can(and will) still have sex and they can(sometimes will) still need to spray. it does sound like his anal glands are clogged. no need for a vet. i'll tell you how to do it from experience. 1. put on rubber gloves and a mask(just to be safe) when you get good at this you will need neither. 2. find cat. 3. take cat to bathroom or kitchen. whichever area you will need some paper towels(4-5 for the first time and just 1 or 2 everytime after) and a trash can. 4. stand cat up. butt faceing you(this is why you need mask) 5. while holding onto a paper towel, lift the cat's tail as far back towards the head(not to far is far enough) 6. if severly impacted liquid will start to either ooze or spray from around the butthole. if none then try sweezing on the right and left sides of butthole while still lifting tail. two people may be needed. you should extract any "spray" that is clogged if none then take to vet

My kitten's butt stinks too. I think some cats do but some don't. When you change to dry food it should get better.

What are you feeding her? How old was she when she was taken from her mother? If she was taken away from her mother too soon she may not have learned how to wash herself properly.
You might try changing her food she might be allergic to something in the food she's getting now.
You might try getting these wipes from he pet store to clean cats with and give her hind quarters a wipe once a day. Or just take a wet wash rag to her butt. Maybe she will get the idea.

Kittens generally don't know how to clean themselves very well, you should take a warm damp cloth and wipe her bum to show her how and stimulate her to do it herself. This happens alot when the kitten was taken from its mother before learning how to groom and also if there are no other cats around to help show the kitten what to do.

LOL I have a stray kitten I found and when I first got him he had the stinkiest butt, good thing I had a dog and 3 other cats because they all cleaned his bum for him and eventually he got the idea and now he does it on his own... So just give your cat some bum cleaning lessons using a wet cloth and eventually she will catch on and do it herself!!

Change it'd diet, that should help - try switching to a more biscuit based food. It should not be as strong as the kitten gets older and it's diet matures.

This is not normal, they probably have a diarrhea, do not give them a cow milk ,,cat milk selling in many stores,,and Purina kittens chow ,,this is the best food for kittens for first year of the live.
