i am doing an experiment that calls for yeast and i do not have any is there anythign to sub with that.

Baking powder or soda are not good substitutes. Though they are a good try. They cause a different chemical reaction. Yeast are live cultures that eat the sugars and produce the result of leavening. The sodas leaven chemically, yeast=naturally.
Honestly, when something calls for yeast, yeast is the way to go.
It's cheap, You can get it from the grocery store for 99 cents for a pack of three. ( I bake homemade bread each week, trust me, it's cheap!)
There are two different types of yeast available, one is Rapid rise, one is regular rise. I don't know if that makes a difference in your experiment but if you wish faster results, the rapid rise may be the way to go.

Baking soda is sometimes used to create a similar result but even it is no direct substitute.
