I go through the same thing with my 6 yr old daughter, its like shes going to miss out on something fabulous by going to sleep. The best thing I can think of is wear them out during the day and no naps. After school take them to the park or swimming something to get that energy out OR have them get up earlier.
Hope this helps and if you find a different sure please share with us.

I have a 6 y/o and a 3 y/o. The thing that helps me the most is to keep a consistent schedule. Also a lot of people don't know that t.v. and video games are stimulating activities. T.v. should be turned off an hour before bedtime. Sometimes if my kids are really wound up I do some stretches with them set to quiet lullabye type music.
Hope it helps.

I agree as difficult as it is the best way is to have routine....I have 2 boys 9&4 the 4 year old will do anything my big one does. I strated a routine with the big one because of night terrors he was having. it helps if i read to him or if i put barney on in the room and turn off the lights.

Don't let them have any kind of caffein in their drinks. Avoid salt as much as possible.

Get rid of cable tv. Spend more time at the library. They may be engaging in activities that contribute to their sleep/education disorder .

Give up eating meat, fish, eggs etc.

Don't do anything to encourage or remind them of sex. Best if they don't know what it is. All they need to know is their studies at school. They can learn about it in biology class some day.

Get rid of all intoxication in your household.

Do not encourage frivolous sports.

Keep their bedrooms clean, neat and comfortable. Wash sheets and pillow cases often. Their bedroom should be as dark and quiet as possible when they sleep.

always always always have a routine!
Stick to the rountine!
If they don't go to sleep right then, let them read in bed. They'll fall asleep soon enough.
Also don't do too much stimulation just before bed. Sometimes, that will have the opposite effect you want. Limit drinks to only plaing water and a natural snack-my little boy likes grapes.
Get our routine down!

Always stick to a rountine -- and don't let them lay in bed when it's not time to sleep....the bed should always be associated with sleep. You should look on Mommytalk.com for more tips -- it's my new favorite website and has lots of useful tips and it's also a great way to meet other moms!

This one is tough, because I have a 13 year old and he does that. Just put them to bed about 30 minutes earlier after a bath and that should help.

You better whoop their little asses and make them go to bed. You are the parent, right? Why are you letting two kids run you? Start a routine, and stick to it. If they want to act like goofballs in the morning, tap those asses again. They will learn.

9:30 seems awful late for them to be going to bed. I would put them to be by 8:30, and lay down the rules, if they don't want to abide by them then you start taking away priveldges.
