Pimm's No. 1 Cup - Britain's Sangria

Pimm’s No. 1 Cup

A refreshing late-summer drink, Pimm's No. 1 Cup is a British favorite favored by those in-the-know on this side of the Atlantic. It comes recommended by the most discerning tastes; the queen of England herself often requests this sangria-like cocktail. “Pimm's No. 1 Cup” is both the name of the cocktail and the liquor that is its staple, which is available at most liquor stores.

Mix a pitcher, put on the Beatles’ Abbey Road, or some classic Monty Python, and practice your British accents.
Brilliant.

Pimm’s No. 1 Cup

You will need:
• 9 ounces Pimm's No. 1 Cup
• 1 cucumber
• 1 lime
• 1 orange
• ¾ cup of fresh strawberries
• Fresh mint, about 14 sprigs
• 24 oz. 7-Up or Sprite
• 12 oz. club soda

1. Place the cucumber, lime, orange, strawberries and half of the mint in the bottom of a pitcher, preferably glass. Add the Pimm's and 6 ounces of Sprite or 7-Up. Traditionalists say letting the mix stand for 30 minutes heightens flavors.

2. Add the remaining Sprite or 7-Up and the club soda. Stir and pour into glasses filled with ice. Don’t put ice in the pitcher, but in the glasses. That way, if the party doesn’t finish it, you can put it in the fridge to enjoy later.

3. Garnish each glass with sprigs of mint, then top with slices of cucumber, lime, orange, and strawberries from the pitcher.
This recipe should serve 4 – 6.
