Agnostic here, not wanting to convert anyone, I'm probably not going to read anyone who tells me I need Jesus in my heart anymore but heh, feel free, first amendment and all.

I'm talking about relationships between real people.

Well, you might as well be standing naked in front of them. You're giving them the opportunity to influence your emotions. They could betray you or hurt you or belittle you. But hopefully you chose wisely who you would let into your heart and they will only add to your quality of life instead of taking away from it. I've found if you really let someone in, then they're always part of you...hopefully in a good way!!

How did I get in this mood? Gonna go call my hubby now, and tell him I love him =)

I can only speak from my own personal experience, but it is one of the biggest risk a person can take. It is opening ones self to the best and the worst that life has to offer.

I did it 33 years ago to a skinny little high school girl with green eyes that just seemed to know how to get my attention without doing aything. And it has been an adventure since.

I have loved her, hated her, kissed her, wanted to strangle her, adored her, and been so angry it could scream. But I would not give up a minutes of it.

I has meant helper her when it is hard, encouraging her when she is down, putting up with her when there is no other choice, accepting her when I realize that i will never change her, and always always believing that I can love her - even when I can't.

I promise not to preach, but I do not know how to answer the question without one quote from the foundation of my life, which is my Christian faith. I have been called "to love her as Christ loved his church and gave his life for it." The only way I know to love her is to recognize that her needs come first. If someone has to take the blame, its me. If someone has to feel the pain, its me. If someone has to take the first step, its me. That is how Christ loved me, so I can not do less.

I have held her hand through miscarriages, cancer, a rape, financial problems, death of parents, and much more. And for that, I get the joy of looking into those big green eyes every day and know that she is in my heart making me everything I need to be - for her and for God.

I pray you have the courage to allow the same kind of relationship with another person, and with God.

I don't invite anyone into my heart. If they get in there it is because they did or said something that touched me and made me feel love for them on some level. The only time I invited someone into my heart, they did not say anything to me or make me feel that they were actually there in any way. That was Jesus, and I was a young teen the last time I tried to get that turd burglar to try to come in and use me as his meat puppet.

I don't mean to seem scientific, but your heart only pumps blood to your brain, where the soul resides. The Holy Spirit comes into your soul and becomes a guide to help you in many ways. Only when you quiet your mind through prayer and meditation can your soul listen for that guidance. Try this method, when you feel peace in your soul, you will have the answer to your question.

I have opened my heart up to lots of people my wife , my son, my daughter. Others are dear to me my pastor, my teammates at work, I co captain on NUMA... Jesus tops the list of all these. He has saved me from my sin and made my life a better place by taking away my anger and hate. And No He would have me do things that would betray mt nation or my dear ones... Jim

I think it is like when they stop being a stranger. Like when you feel entirely comfortable around them, and can be yourself while they are around. Like they don't seem foreign to your environment. Ex: a new chair will seem out of place, but after you get used to it, you just come in and sit down it it. You know to walk by it in the dark because you recognize it as part of your place.
(the chair thing only applies to your environment part, not that you let a chair into your heart).

It is both the greatest treasure and the greatest risk one can take. You will end up with more happiness and love from including that person in your life but because they are human, one runs the risk of also being hurt by them. But, that is what forgiveness is for and the risk is well worth the reward.

with another person- becoming vulnerable, opening up to them and letting them into who you really r, let your guard down, break the wall around your heart so someone can know the real you
with God- you r simply letting him take over your life and make you new, make you the person you were meant to be in his eyes,
you r giving him the controls and realizing you r not the one in control, your heart becomes more pure and loving of the world...you will see everything new.

When you let someone in your heart I imagine you are in love, you brace yourself for rejection and pain. But I believe that love is bold and strong, a little bit wild and cares not for the consequences.

Love never comes without a hearty dose of suffering along for the ride.
