Yes. Fortunately most of the damage is reversible and memory recovers over time. However, learning, both intellectually and emotionally, is effected whilst memory is impaired due to cannabis so it could take a person a while to catch up with the rest of the world once they've stopped smoking. Cannabis is very good at smothering the need to learn hard lessons, but a person would still have to learn them eventually, smoking dope just delays it and condemns the heavy toker to repeating the same mistakes over and over again. Cannabis's stays in the fatty tissues of the body for up to 30 days so a heavy smoker would need to stop for a month before they were completely 'straight' again and memory starts to recover. As with all drugs, the best advice is "Less is More". If a person smokes less pot less often they get a better high more often.
There are a lot of tricks to improving memory, mainly based around practice and attaching stories and images to the things you want to remember, there's loads on the www.

Yeah it will in that your judgement will always be clouded up. If anything, just smoke out Kronic in the weekend so that your brain is filtering out the bad s h i t. There are some things to help improve your memory, but what good is that going to do if you're smoking weed? Read a book or go on the internet and read stuff, doesn't matter what the f u c k it is, just as so your putting stuff inside your brain that helps and not f u c k it up. If anything and you're serious about, quit smoking out, read then instead of paying some bone$ for a g, buy brain supplements to help feed your brain the proper food it needs, seratonin levels wise. For God's sake, DO NOT f u c k e n do Extasy, then you'll really fry your brain!

BRAIN CELLS RN'T KILLED! if that were the case everyone would be dead. Not to mention we have a supply of brain cells that we don't even use in our life time. They r a neurons that send and receive electrochemical signals to and from the brain and nervous system. By smoking, in this case, limits the amount of information that is sent and received therefore causing memory loss and slower reaction. Everyone is different so the amount of information can range from severly limited or not at all (also depending on how much and how often u smoke). The long term effects r also based on the person just like every other medical aspect (if u think u won't get better u won't). Like everything that's "damaged" it (memory) needs time to repair and "exercise" (like physical theropy). People...u need to research what u say before u say things!!

Like most drugs it is bound to have some effect on memory, but cannabis is at it's most dangerous during teenage years as the brain and things like personality are still developing.
More worryingly more and more research suggests that heavy cannabis use can trigger mental disorders such as schizophrenia, especially in teenagers, if it is smoked heavily.
Many people can smoke cannabis for years and have no obvious effects, but for others it can destroy their mental health. There needs to be better education in schools. Instead of telling kids 'don't do it', it should be explained to them exactly what they are risking by taking mind altering substances at this age.

who's been a naughty little toker then?
cannabis will severely damage several mental functions (I know from experience) it not only cattles your memory, but makes you dopey too (no pun intended).
The good news is that I regained most of my grey matter after I stopped smoking (still do occasionally but notice the effects longer).
It has a different effect on everyone, you don't know what that is until it happens (could turn you proper psycho!). If you don't want to take the chance - dont toke!
My advice would be to enjoy it *occasionally* if you want to.

Ignore all the smart comments. YES it is well documented that cannabis affects the both the short and long term memories.
If you feel it is damaging you, you should stop. Long term cannabis use makes people VERY boring.

Smoking damages your brain cells, therefore effects your memory, but if you smoked it in the first place, you can't have that many brain cells anyway!
