I understand exactly what you're saying. Kids need balance. If you take away the things he loves, he'll feel punished. If he feels punished his grades will suffer. Check around and find an alternative.

All people need incentive even 11 year olds.
If his love of sports is motivating him to study good. As a parent, your job is to prepare him to be able to compete in the world. Sports are also helping him learn valuable lessons like team work, leadership and competition and socialization. balance is important so maybe 1 sport is enough. If you take all the sports out his grades will probably drop as he rebels. Find a sports team that fits the schedule of the good school or find a good school that has a sports team. You have to get him into the best school you can afford and he can handle. good luck

I think it is important to choose what's best for you son because he does not understand how important college prep is. With that, enroll him in a program where he can play sports on the weekend or during summer. As long as he gets lots of smiles and verbal support for going to that school he will probably be ok.

He is eleven and smart you are the one in control College is not for everyone and that OK is try a private on scholarship and if not petition in to the other.
Or Have the other school let him out of PE and then he can still be in his sports
He is eleven and wants the world his way and you can do sports and school just have to talk to the ones in control and work it out
OR move him into another district

I wish my child had the same opportunity as yours to go to school from 8-6. But that would be great for my kid. It seems your child's need would be best met at a different school.

I would suggest that you visit with the administrative office over the schools in your district and start there.

best wishes for your son. your concern is admirable.

Most states have school of choice. I think most schools leave a couple of spaces open for this. I would contact the school where he wants to go.

Most likely with a school that goes 8-6 they have a lot of breaks, so your kid doesn't get worn down. Maybe go for a tour there?

What state are you in?

That seems like a very long day, 10 hours? I don't know where you live but our school days are only 6 and a half hours long, like my son goes to school 8:30am to 3:15pm. Why on earth would someone send their kid to a school with hours like that?
