If it is littering, why do we tolerate it? We wouldn't think it's okay to drive down the highway and toss a coffee cup out the window, so why a cigarette?

It is littering and, if caught, that person would get a fine for every cigarette butt. Unfortunately most of these people don't get caught.
That person will learn his/her lesson when they throw their cigarette butt out the window and due to the force of the wind, it comes back in and lands on their back seat. They won't realize until they see smoke. I've seen it happen. It happened to my dumb exhusband.

We do not throw a coffee cup out the window. That is littering. So is throwing a cigarette butt on the ground, also out the window.

Throwing a cigarette butt anywhere other than a trash can is littering. Some people just need to be reminded that there are trash cans everywhere....if not,better keep it to yourself and throw later when you find one. Nice thing that some schools teach that to young kids. Better start them young. By the way, smoking is hazardous to....you know the rest.

It is littering and it gets into ground water with all the nasty chemicals. I am a smoker. I do not throw my butts on the ground or even smoke in the car (where I have kids and all). I also never smoke in the house. I just smoke outside and put the cig out and then throw it away in the trash.

Yes, it is littering. But the real pollution is the highway that finds itself under the cigarette butt... and all the cars driving on it.

Throwing anything unnatural into nature is littering. Throwing trash (including cigarette butts) anywhere but a trashcan is littering.
And, contrary to popular belief, cigarette butts are NOT biodegradable.

Yes. The filters last for twenty years. We constantly pick them up on our rocky beach. I am sure those people in the middle of the lake toss them out without thinking. Smokers obviously do not think seriously, or care about their bodies, or littering my world.

i think that throwing ur cigarette butt is definitely littering even if it is out of the window car or sth..throwing anything that is not organic whatsoever is littering coz it destroys the perfect image of a beautiful road..

Yes, it is littering. ANY item thrown on the ground can be considered littering.
As for tossing a butt outta a car window? THE WORLD IS NOT YOUR ASHTRAY! If you have to smoke in your car, keep the crap IN YOUR CAR! Then, clean out your ashtray at home...If you smoke, your ashtray is NOT for change.
