We have a tile entry that leads to carpeted stairs. To the left is a pool table room and to the right is a family room. My husband dislikes carpet and wants wood floors in the rooms to the right and left of the tile entry. Wow...so many different floorings. Is that tooooo much visually?

If the rooms are spacially well-defined then there's nothing wrong with changing floor coverings. If the stair railing is stained to match the wood floors that can really help to pull it all together.

I would say not if it's done right! I don't like carpets either cause after they get real old if you pull them up you can find tiny bugs under the carpets. Did you know
Vacuum cleaners were invented 1st? Carpents were made to make a use for Vacuum cleaners. Also Lawn mowers were Invented before they came up with the idea of cutting grass in the yard! At least they didn't make up a new name here they simply called the Lawn cutting gadget that was invented a Lawn Mower!
I think wood or tile floors are best. The tar that holds down tiles prevents bugs from getting under them! Also
if the tiles are washed often enough then there's no chance of bugs. Wood floors are the healthiest method
but that's not considered decorative by many designers but you can paint wood floors very fancy like.. you can make them look like carpets or else you can get carpets that look like tiles!

It should be whatever appeals to you as the homeowners, and no designer or anyone else should tell you what makes you comfortable.

For me, I am renovating my own residence, and I am removing all traces of the wall-to-wall carpeting that was in the house when it was built (and the horrid wallpaper and the popcorn ceiling, etc etc etc). As I now am an older single parent with two adult children on their own -- well, MY choice is tile for the common areas/bathrooms/kitchen/laundry/mud/entries, and wood flooring for the rest -- and I like it that way.

Work with your spouse and go to the local hardware Stores and their weekly project talks -- Lowes and Home Depot both have seminars on everything from Flooring to Ceiling Fans and Paint and everything inbetween. I enjoy these seminars, get good information, get a look at new products, and ideas on how to make things work. For me, I have tackled everything from replacing electrical recepticles to light switches, to rewiring to replacing toilets/sinks and doing flooring, mouldings, etc -- a wide range of skills I have gained and that I am confident in and am expanding my skills as I speak -- I am going to tackle new projects soon that will allow me to learn even more.

So go and talk together in your home and explore the local offerings. That is what is necessary in your situation. Realize that tile flooring and a good quality flooring will last a LOT longer than carpeting (and which looks awful after only a year). By the time you pay for new carpeting, you can have paid for what you need to tile or put down wood flooring and save money in the long run -- because they last longer.

I don't think so as long as the colors flow and don't clash. You can use up to 7 different colors of wood when decorating.

Nope. If you are really worried about how it will look though, then you just need a nice, clean design and colors that will go well together.

Nope. I have something similar and I had my transition strips custom made so they fit nice and break up where they come together real nice.
