My marriage is a partnership.
Benefits to marriage? I can handle financial matters for him if necessary. I don't have to petition to have my "partner's" name on birth certificates. I don't have to worry about health insurace because I'm covered by his work. If he's ever hurt, I have the right to visit and make medical decisions instead of being sidelined by parents or siblings. If he dies, I'm his beneficiary and it can't be contested by parents or siblings. Also, I would get final say in how his remains are handled.
I'm sure there's plenty I'm leaving out... but those are a few.

Marriage is a legally recognized partnership. Without the legal recognition, you basically have a non-court enforceable verbal agreement concerning property, inheritances, children, etc.
Protect yourself and your partner, make it official.

i think so... if you are just living w/ someone, it's really easy to just leave and that could be a big mistake. divorce is expensive, so sometimes it is good to work things out rather than go through with it

turn the question aroudn and ask yourself if my partner worthy or not worthy of my giving into their desire to make it official and get married.
I do not believe one is better or worse than the other.
