Many religions have been practiced in Asia Minor, or Anatolia, which is now modern day Turkey.

Along the coastal areas Greeks conquered the people and introduced their pantheon of Gods, as did the Romans. Around the time of Jesus Christ there were many Jewish settlements and congregations. Eventually, Christianity spread throughout the region when the Roman Empire converted to Christianity. Around 1050 AD the Western Church, or Catholic Church split from the Church in Constantinople, which became the Eastern Orthodox church. This lasted until the Ottomans completed their conquest of Asia Minor in the 1400s. Today modern Turkey is a predominately Muslim, but has a secular government.
