Best way to store basil is to froze it.

if you live in a very sunny place you can sun-dry hot peppers in your backyard, or use a dehydrator. In my opinion, sun dried taste much better.
If you have a very large quantity of basil, I'd suggest to make youw own Pesto, and freeze it.

Use a dehydrator for fast results or lay the peppers or basil on plain absorbant towels such as Bounty Towels and let sit in a cool dry area for about 2 to 4 weeks or until dry.

Cut the basil and put it in a brown paper grocery bag. Punch holes in it. Fold over and clamp top shut and place the bag in the sun (fastest) or in any dry location. Not sure about peppers never done them.

I simply put them on a piece of screening (like for windows) and leave them out to dry naturally. I suppose if the peppers are thick/large, you may need to put them in a low oven for a bit. I don't dry my basil anymore-I now chiffonade them, put a bit into an ice cube tray, add a bit of EVOO, finish filling with water, and freeze. When frozen, I pop them out and put them in a zippy!

I've dried cayenne peppers naturally.

A dehydrator works great, I got mine at Kohl's. Or, if you have an oven with a pilot light, (to keep warm), that will work too, although it will take longer.
Products have to be dried quickly or they will rot before they dry.
