You need to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegatables. A diet high in fiber. That means at least 20 grams of fiber a day. I would also recommend finding a glycemic index chart either in a nutrition book or online and following it as closely as possible. The foods with the lowest Glycemic Index are going to be the BEST foods for you. Absolutely stay away from foods approaching 100 on the Glycemic Index. Also try to eat a small amount of healthy protein with EVERY meal. As far as your foot, have you been diagnosed with diabetic neuropathy or just blood sugar problems?
Sometimes foot pain or numbness can be due to an inflammed Sciatic nerve. I would also go get checked out by a chiropractor. He or She will probably be glad to give you nutrition advice also

I am sorry to hear that. Have you been diagnosed with Neuropathy? Your symtoms sound very much so. I have been a diabetic for a long time. I am on insulin. You must restrict your intake of carbohydrates. There again there are good ones and bad ones. I would suggest that you see a dietician, if you can afford one. If you have Ins. it will pay also if you have medicare or medicaid it also will pay. If you do not have either, seek a clinic. This is a serious matter. Do not wait too late. I am very fortunate that I do not have Neuropathy in my feet, I have it in my hands. It is not reversible but you can get some releif and comfort. There are lotions on the market that will sooth, not cure.
You didn't mention if you are type I or Type II.
Good luck and May GOD bless.

First, see a doctor. Next, cut back on any processed sugar. Sweets, even sugar in your coffee. Cut back on white flower and corn, too as these turn to sugar in the system.
Find out what the pain and numbness is from, and then you more properly determine what kind of diet is best.

I am a diabetic and I have proven that the best diet is lots of fresh salad vegetables and 90grams of meat cooked on the barbecue is a great diet especially if you have blood pressure or high choleseral. drinking plenty of water and walking can burn up high readings of sugar in the blood. I walk 10 minutes only x 3 per week and my bsl levels are under control readings are 5.6-6.5 within range now. I still get pain and numbness my doctor told me you get this with nerve endings that are damaged.cheers dee.

Diabetes is a disease one should never let to occur .As you know its such a disease that it would make you suffer .The numbness etc may be due to the age .Anyway consult a doctor .
Avoid direct sugar consumption .sugar in some fruits etc are also not good for health .Starchy stuffs including rice, tapioca etc should also be given up .If you are so particular, artificial sweeteners which do not contain sugar can be used .
REMEMBER-only IF NECESSARY
Regular exercises should be followed to burn up the additional calories which is IMPORTANT.

If you are Diabetic, you have to go to proper dietitians, who will suggest, the correct, calories your body, needs. If you are not, why should you control sugar? Unnecessary, control, of sugar may lead to other complications. Our body, itself has, sugar controlling mechanism.
Even after this you want to restrict sugar avoid taking direct sugar, i.e. no sugar in any drink, like tea, coffee, etc.. Avoid, ice creams, bananas mangoes, etc..
