not a real big difference, win XP pro has a little better security system and is better for networking computers together. Other than that not a whole lot

While both XP Home Edition and XP Pro can join a Domain Controller on a local area network, XP Pro is actually designed for this purpose whereas XP Home Edition is not.
XP Pro even as a standalone system is better than XP Home Edition.
XP Pro is more secure, has better tools, and loves to be a member of a Microsoft Domain.
Hope this helps.

Windows XP Professional has very subtle changes, most importantly additional networking tools and security.
For a home user, I would definitely use Windows XP Home edition.
