If you've been together for quite a while (and you're not married, or whatever) -- A promise ring should be good. However, there are many other things you can get a man. Such as a watch, outfit, or anything else that he enjoys (games maybe?)

get him something he has not ad in a long time. or let him do something you normally dont do in bed, or a nice new watch, or a new phone or gadget if he likes that kind of thing. Or if he is into sports some season tickets to his favorite team

I hate this gift more than anything but its always safe. A gift card to a store you know he likes. He can get whatever he wants that way and you dont have to rack your brain like this :)

Since you gave us no details, you should ask him what he wants. Men are usually not too picky. It doesn't have to be romantic or emotional. Set of tires is good.
