Different styles of saddles and bridles and the way they areheld is different.
Western riding evolved from a working perspective where men on horses roped cattle and pulled things with the horse.
It is more of the working type riding. The things they do in it are done so they could preform the job easier and better.
English is more refined and used for jumping and dressage.
It is much easier to jump in and english saddle but you can jump in a western one.
I ride both English when I am doing training work in the arena or jumping and when I am out working off the horse western and mostly western when we trail ride as I live in the midwest and most who trail ride here ride in a western a saddle.

NO NO NO!!!! Western riding is very different to English riding!! The way the two differ is Western style riding includes trail riding, show classes such as pleasure and reining, and competition such as barrel racing, pole bending, and rodeo, while English riding is more about style and riding correctly. Examples of events where tradtional english riding is used is hacking, dressage and showjumping equitation.

Western Riding is a more relaxed way of riding compared to English Riding.

AND THATCAME OUT OF MY HEAD AND WASN'T COPIED FROM A WEBPAGE LIKE MANY OF THE OTHERS.

No, they are quite different. In short, Western uses the larger saddle and you direct the horse with your hands. English uses a smaller saddle. You feel higher up on the horse and there is nothing to hold onto like the horn on the Western saddle. In English, you direct your horse with leg commands. In my opinion, Western is more relaxed but I prefer English. Both are fun, though. Riding is riding! s.

Not even close. No pommel on an english saddle. English riding is prim and proper with lots of posting. Western riding is work related. Sit tight and hold on.

no. the western saddle has a pommel in the front, english doesn't have that. the stir-ups are wider and made out of leather on the western saddle. the stir-ups for the english saddle are small and made out of medel. the riens are different. with the western, the you hold the reins with one hand, with english, you hold two reins in each hand.

No. Western riding uses long stirrups and the horse does not trot. So you don't have to learn to bounce with the horse.

Of course not! And the western horse will let you know in a very fast way, if you survive it. Don't try.

no! the tack is different. so is the way you hold the reins and the way you sit. the western trot is a jog and the western canter is a lope. the jog and lope are slower than the trot and canter.

I believe it is different. I think in western riding your legs are straighter. You also hold the reins in one hand. The horses gait is also different.
