I live in the peoples republik of MA and the gun laws are very strict here in terms of storage. Knowing that a 12 ga shotgun is best suited for home defense, I was wondering how I can keep it legally secured, yet ready for action should I need it. The law states that firearms must be kept in a locked container or otherwise secured with a trigger lock. I want to comply, but won't leave the gun laying around with just a trigger lock. Is there a bed-rail kind of lock that could be applied, keeping it out of site, yet secured and ready?

I don't know if there are any bed rails that are made for holding a shotgun but get a couple of the L-hooks like you use to screw into walls to hold tools and stuff and fix them to the boxsprings of the bed. Even if requires some minor renovation to the bed, it still seems more logical than leaving it in a safe with the shells somewhere else.

Personally i believe a handgun is more suited to home defense because you are in a small area and the shotgun will have less manueverability than a 9mm or .45acp. These are also easier to conceal in a nightstand or NightSentry makes a great holster that fits to any size bed that will hold your handgun, flashlight, and cell phone. But to each his own. If you've done your homework and the 12 ga. is what suits you and what you are most comfortable with then you should stick with the 12.

870 Remington Express. Wear ear plugs at least. If you want to be deaf then don't. An occasional gun going off near you won't make you deaf normally unless it is very large and close. Shooting clays, skeet or trap will take away your hearing is short order. Ear plugs don't interfere with your shooting in any way. Some head sets will. Even disposable plugs are better than nothing. I'm retired military and watching what people say isn't easy. You can mistake what you think you saw them say fairly easily. I hope you don't like music or watching Television, Movies, Plays, Shows or a host of other things that hearing plays a big part in. Do yourself a favor and protect what hearing you do have. I know.

I live in Ohio and find it hard to believe that MA law states your gun must be rendered ineffective in your own home.
