He just won't eat his food, and he is not drinking any water. I am giving him water with a dropper and force feeding him. The Vet said there is nothing he can do. What should I do?

I can't say yes or no, but what I can tell you is continue what you are doing. I have a friend who had a similar problem with her pet, and she did the same thing you are doing for almost a month and her dog slowly got better. She was told the hot weather was the culprit for his illness. I would also encourage you to prepare yourself in the event your pet is to ill to survive. Best Wishes to you both!

Take him to a different vet for a second opinion try to get him to eat use a spoon little bit at a time also get call a pet shop or if you have a Pet Co to see if they have any electrolytes drink for dogs and try to give him some in a bottle if not get some Gatorade then try putting it in a baby bottle or a bottle that baby puppies use when they won't drink from their mom but also try the medicine dropper or a syringe even but get him to different vet like now they can give him an iv with stuff he needs I'm not sure why they did not do that anyways.Good Luck.

You could get a second opinion. I don't know why he wont eat or drink, it could be age, it could be parvo, if its a puppy. But 9 time out of 10 if the vet says there is nothing they can do that means that the end is near, and you should go and put the poor thing out of his misery. Think of the dogs quality of life. Is his life as good as it can be at this point in time. If the answer is NO then it is time to put him down, and don't make him suffer any more. I'm so sorry.

your vet sounds dumb, maybe u need a second opinion. You should b able to purchase a hills science diet tinned food from a vet clinic that u can add water to and put into a syringe, and feed via mouth. Also do this with water. Im not sure really what the whole problem is but he definately needs some food/nutrients. Im suprised your vet didnt place him on I/V fluids.

Go to a different vet and get a second opinion. I'm going through a cat with the same thing and it turns out he has lymphoma cancer. He is 8 years old and being treated with chemo and responding really well.

The best advice is to treat your pets as if they're family but know that if your pet is suffering sometimes the best thing you can do is let him pass.

If he isn't crying/wimpering and looking in pain i would continue what you do and get a second opinion and find out what is actually affecting him. IF it is cancer and your dog isn't near his usuall adult life span then seek out cancer treatments. The success rates in animals are fairly high and the costs are generally low and affordable because treatment has long been standardized for pets.

A little bit of TLC often helps.

1. Pet your dog, brush him and show affection
2. Continue to try and give him water. Try bottled/jug water and see if that helps get over the hump.
3. Make sure you have fresh food. Some people buy HUGE bags of foods that gets contaminated long before its all eaten up and the dog may be having a hunger strike or stomach pains because of it.
4. Try and keep him active and out of the heat, direct sunlight.

Motivation helps, but get a good vet who will explain all options and everything you need to know about the breed and common ailments they have seen.

A do nothing approach would typically deserve a slap in the face if you asked me and is disrepectfull of your concerns and love for your family and family pets.

Not all vets aced their exams, they simply passed them. With something that serious, it's ALWAYS good to go to more than one vet to see if they have the same opinion. Not all vets think alike.
Perhaps ask about getting a stool sample and blood work- my dog wasnt eating or drinking and she would just lay around, I knew that wasnt her natural character- so when she got a stool sample, it turned out she had roundworms, she had them before we had even got her and it was also why she didnt want to eat or drink, because she was constantly nauseated!
If I were you, I'd go to another vet for a second opinion.

Right now you are doing to best thing by force feeding him. But what did the vet say is wrong with him. Your vet should have said more other then "there is nothing he can do".

If this is all you vet said and did not do many tests I would get a second opion. Also how old is your dog and is he big or smal?

Your vet said only that there was nothing he could do? He didn't run tests? He didn't try to diagnose him? What kind of vet just says, Oh, your dog's not eating or drinking, sorry can't help??? You need another vet - one who will actually give you a diagnosis.

I had my dog put to sleep recently, and the vet I consulted with told me there were five things necessary to constitute quality of life: drinking, eating, peeing, pooping and movement. He said if a dog goes without any one of these for three or more days, his quality of life has become pretty low.

Get to a vet who will actually try to figure out WHY your dog isn't eating or drinking. There's *always* a reason - your dog may be suffering needlessly.

You really do not give enough information to have anyone on here give a rational response or advise. Until we know what your dog is diagnosed with, sometimes there is nothing anyone can do anymore but make them more comfortable during this process.

Good Luck to both of you

Is he old?
Try putting Pedilyte in the dropper and squirting into his mouth, about 1 cp every couple hours. This will help w/ the dehydration. good luck.
