Can people who once dated really be friends after a break up? I went out with a guy all through high school. We broke up, both hurted each other, and dated other people. But through out all the ups and downs we kept in contact. Most recently, he is dating a new girl but this time it's different he does not make an effort to be my friend.

I hate to break it to you kid, but he's moving on with his life. I know that wasn't something you wanted to hear, but that is what it looks like. I never did believe that when you break up with your girlfriend/boyfriend, you could be friends again. Why would you trust someone that cheated on you(just an example)to be your friend? The meaning of friendship is trust and respect. You guys might have lost that a long time ago.

I think you and your ex-boyfriend can have a friendship, but the circumstance will be different, although if he has decided that he does not want to be your friend obviously he will not try to make any contact with, It would be in your best interest to move on, seeing as how things have changed since his newest girlfriend is taking up his time.

Personal experience says no.

Once I have dated and loved and been intimate with a girl...forget it. I always see her in the same light. Kind of primal "I had her once, and I can have her again" type thing. It is bad, but I guarantee you he thinks this way about you.

If he is staying away from you now, it could be that the current woman is not comfortable with him being close to an ex. She probably knows how men think...see above paragraph.

Move on.

I am friends with all my ex boyfriends.......I think that is very normal because there was something there that you were both fond of each other to begin with. That will never change, even if your relationship didn't work out. I think in this situation he may really be in love with this person and that he is completely absorbed by her because it is real. If that is not the case it may be that she doesn't approve of his friendship with you and feels it a threat and he isn't telling you.

Sounds like he really likes this girl, so he doesn't need to keep you hanging around anymore. Exes shouldn't stay friends, it rarely ever works out. Someone will get hurt.

Yes, it is possible, but like all friends, they come and go for a while, depending upon what is going on in their lives. It doesn't mean they don't care, it just means they are busy. (haven't you ever lost contact with a girl friend for a while when she started seeing someone new?)

Yes, you can. Not always advisable - unless all is open-minded and adult about friendship.

On the other hand, if there is the so-called innocent flirting going on - it is not appropriate...to other party involved.
