It's a mental illness. Looking after yourself spiritually and also PROZAC will help. I've had depression for about 4 years now and I fine the best way to feel better is when I'm on pills and trying to do things that I like... painting, playing with my cat...looking after myself spiritually.

Depression is a mental illness...well to be more exact it's not really an illness, but a chemical inbalance in the brain, the 'thyroid' plays a very large part in the chemical distribution in the mind, often those with thyroid problems, have depression. So if you have suffered from childhood with depression, your brain is lacking a chemical or is slower to produce 'the happy chemical',there is amazing herbal remidies. St.John'sWort just to name one. Secondly you could have a thyroid problem,if you haven't had your thyroid checked, please do so.

It is one state (mental) effecting the other (spiritual) in a negative manner.
If you're asking if you have demons or something... Human being's should learn to attribute their shortcoming to their own inability or desire to conform to doing what is right and correct.
I really honestly believe that depression comes from three things.
The inner state of being unforgiving of someone who hurt you and an inability to let go of the circumstance surrounding the events.
The fact that it is easier to lie to yourself than it is to be honest (unless where the conscious is concerned) which is where the problems come in later. The juxtaposition of the deed and the effect on the conscious later on. otherwise known as manipulation. Depressed people are the greatest manipulators in the universe! and honesty with everyone else. feeling that you have the right to own, exercise and express your opinion, right or wrong, debatable or dead on. Own your right to be who and what you are.
and then there is nutrition and exercise. Which is avoided more than anything else and it is the key factor in mental health and self esteem.
The best way to go about becoming something. Is to act accordingly as though you already are that thing.

It's a mental illness; supposedly depressions comes from a decrease or no release of the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine in the brain. Also it is said that nurture and life experiences plays a big role on depression.
Having a good spiritual relationship to however do you believe in, tends to be helpfull in recovery or management of the depression symptoms.

It's a mental illness, but not always chemical. It can be triggered by events as well.
For some people the cause may be related to their spiritual life, as well as the resolution, but it must be treated by experts. Quick fixes are not going to offer long-term results.

Depression is normal now and then. But chronic depression is not.
It can be caused by a variety of things, but they boil down to psychological, environmental, or physiological sources. Most, if not all, these causes can be treated; so it is a good idea to see your primary physician and go from there.
If you believe in a spirit, that belief can and does trigger psychological responses. Those responses can be either positive or negative. A positive response would be like "fearing no evil" and a negative one would be like having "self doubts about one's faith." And, of course, psychological issues can in turn trigger physiological ones as well.

It is a chemical imbalance in the brain. Luckily it does not always over spill into other illnesses such as bi-polar or shizophrenia. Get yourself a light box which is used for seasonal affective disorder, but has recently been proved beneficial for depression. Ask your doctor.
