This happened to me, but it was me stepping on my cat. I could not afford the vet bill either. She limped for awhile, but after a week or so, she was fine and up and running normally. I wouldn't medicate though and if you don't see an improvement, I would get her to a vet.

I know going to the vet is expensive....but the cat does need to be looked at.
**NOTE** Cats can fall from great heights and LOOK like they are okay. Most common injuries are to collar bones, broken jaws and internal injuries when their bellies hit the ground. If you see a cat fall or suspect they have fallen....cats are very good at covering up injuries that you or I would easily call 911 for if we had the same injuries.
Most vets if you talk to them will allow payment plans. Just explain why you don't have money right now and that you can't let your cat suffer this way...be honest with them.
I had one cat hit by a car and another fell off the edge of a porch, both looked fine and then started walking funny later the same day. One had broken ribs (the one that was hit by the car) and the other had busted its jaw and sprained one leg.
Side note: If you let your cat run around with a possibly broken leg and someone sees it hurt and reports it...the SPCA or sheriffs department can come take the animal away and you will face fines and a future court date...with more fines.
"Not having any money" isn't a valid excuse in their eyes. They are going to ask you why you have pets if you can't afford to take care of them when they need medical assitance.
Sorry to be so harsh but I have been on many of those calls and have seen what happens to the animals and the people that didn't get them help. I don't want you to get in trouble and I don't want your cat walking around hurt.
Good luck to you and I hope that your cat is okay.

A vet told me once that short distances are often more dangerous for cats than long ones - the reason being that if the cat has enough time to straighten himself out for a correct landing if he falls from a high place. I would suggest that you discuss the problem with a reputable vet , a university hospital or the humane society. You need to find out if there is a fracture. If there is no fracture then get a book on cat massage and very meticulously follow the instructions given. Cats love it, and the manipulation will speed up the healing process.

Unless the cat jumped or fell from very high up (a five-story building for instance) there is probably no serious injury from the fall.
Thank god you know not to give any human meds for this! I would watch the kitty for a few days to see if it improves gradually. I would keep the kitty indoors until I saw improvement.
One thing you can always have on hand in your home for accidents such as this is Rescue Remedy. You can get a bottle at a health foods store. It can not do any harm to your cat. You shake the bottle well and apply three to four drops to the cat's fur between its ears. For an injury such as the fall you might treat for several days, three to four times a day. The remedy is for shock, pain, trauma and fears. It will greatly aid any injury a cat has had. It is also useful to apply some for vet trips. My vet puts it on the cats as he takes them out of the carrier for their examination or treatment.

You didn't say how much time has passed. I have had many cats, and they usually limp due to an injury, such as the outside cats fighting over territory. Check His paws very closely, spread them apart and check for lacerations, thorns, pebbles, and stickers. Hydrogen peroxide could help You look for possible cuts. Then check His nails, by slowly pushing each one forward. One could be broken off, or too long, causing pain. Then carefully take His legs, one at a time, start with the front, since they are fine, and slowly, carefully bend them at the joint, up and back. Then check Him over, really good, for bites, and cuts. They can heal over while still infected. This can cause pain. You will tell the most by working with His legs, how sensitive it is. Best Wishes, You are a good Momma. If His limp persists, call several vets to see if You can arrange a payment plan with them.
Our Beagle was coming in the house two days ago, and I could see that He was having difficulty raising His right paw, to bring Himself up. It was very difficult for Him. He finally made it up, and took about two steps in the back door and collapsed. I thought that His leg/paw/or/foot was broken. So I checked His pads and nails, and then I gently bent His leg at the joint, and stretched it out, several times, very carefully. He soon got up and was fine. I really think that the joint in His leg was out of place.

I think the only thing to do is to take him to a vet. You could call the vet and ask them if you could write them a check and have them hold it until you get the money, if it isn't to long from now that you'll get the money. I've had to do this a couple times and they were nice enough to allow it. Hopefully yours will too.

If you cant afford to take care of your cat then maybe you shouldnt have a pet at all. Just like people would be in terrible pain to be having to walk around on that I'm sure your cat is feeling the same way. Maybe you should turn him over to the animal clinic or someone else who will be able to take care of him.

It is just a cat put it down and go get a new one they are all over on CL for free right now.
If you can not afford to put it down humanely take it to the pound or call your local animal shelter and tell them it is a stray.
