Winning is not everything, but making the effort to win is. It must be done fairly, squarely, and according to the rules.

Sometimes winning is the most important thing. The Apollo 13 quote "losing is not an option" comes to mind.

After teaching for thirty years, I came to the realization that you have to encourage students to do their absolute best. Even when they have put in an effort, often they can do better, and knowing when to push and when not to push and just provide encouragement is the art of teaching. Over the years I have seen more and more the tendency to just settle for good instead of going for excellent.......we have so much talent in our youth and our society as a whole that for whatever reason is not being fully realized.

To go with my quotation above....image today often seems more important than the actual product.....ie....steroids in sports, cheating on papers through the use of the internet, ect. Winning needs to be done through hard work and by the rules so everyone is on even ground.

Sort priorities and live by values. Priorities alone gives rise to Utilitarianism. Values alone can cause ridiculous results. But, if you teach them the art and science of combining values with priorities with their values, you will instill wisdom.

We are in a post-modern world. There are questions that require complex reasoning and painful choices.

I do not think that is snappy and brief enough to fit onto a sweat shirt, except maybe XXXL size. Try again with fewer words to get the proper zing to it.

If you're applying it to high school or college sports it's not going to fly. Try this one:

WINNING IS THE ONLY THING SO KILL KILL KILL THE OTHER TEAM AND THEIR MAMMAS!

That's actually pretty good, isn't it? let me know if you use it.
