I've done 2 years in Iraq, i just got back a couple of days ago, and have been all over that sorry country. Yes it does get cold there, especially when you go to Northern Iraq. It usually starts cooling down around October. The days during winter are pretty nice, temperature wise, and the winter nights can get pretty cold, compared to how it is during the summer. Plus wearing all that gear like we have to in the Army, makes the temp go up like crazy!lol

Hey, I've been in your shoes. My brother was over there for almost two years. If you ever need to talk about it, feel free to contact me. I don't think it ever really gets cold there. Although even 80 something might feel cold to them after 120 degreee heat. I think it's usually massively hot and stifling. Especially with all the clothing and gear that they wear around. Best of luck to your family.

My husband was a Marine and served in the first gulf war. He said they were always freezing at night out in the desert. Of course, he was sleeping under a Hummer at the time.

yes it gets very cold at night time. All deserts get cold at night because there are no trees to soak up the heat while it's hot in the day.
