I'm sure that will get attention I didn't mean,
anyway, my gland on my jaw is really swollen. Doctor over the phone didn't think it was mumps.
I look like I've been socked in the jaw. Or the elephant man. Any ideas?

I've had that before too. It is most likely a swollen gland (then again I'm no doctor but...) and it could have been caused by a cold recently or something else. It should go away soon, if not talk to your doctor.

I would not trust any doctor who diagnoses this kind of thing over the phone. This doctor may feel that mumps is unlikely because most people are immunized against it, but it does exist, not all immunizations are effective.

You need to have a doctor look at it and feel it and do more exam to find out what it might be. Just call, make an appointment and go in. If the appointment they offer is too far off in time, you might want to visit one of those "doc in the box" places where they take walk-ins. Do not, however, go to an emergency room, as this does not reach the qualification of emergency.

My sis had it. The Dr told her it was a tooth infection. and a jaw infection. She looked like someone hit her up side her jaw with a 2 x 4 lol she needed penicillin. but it is best to just go in and have the Dr look at it. Hope you feel better soon.

still let the doc look at it so you can get medication or something to ease the situation ya know.. make life a bit more comfortable.

and just in case it's not something serious going on.

ya never can tell, that one moment where you say 'nah it's just a swollen gland it'll go down in a couple days..' bang! you get so sick you can't get out of bed

When my glands were swollen, I had to take antibiotics. Go to the doctors if its bothering you that bad. Mine felt like they could come through the skin, it was terrible.

I did have the mumps for a few days fifteen years ago. I was sent home from school for 5 days until a doctor gave me the green light to return.
