Lots of atheists are also agnostic. Lots of theists are agnostic as well. Atheist simply means anyone who lacks a belief in gods. Agnostic means one who makes the claim that the fundamental basis for reality is unknowable. One either believes in gods (theist) or they don't ( atheist). There is no middle position. Also Agnosticism has nothing at all to do with belief in gods or belief at all. It is about Knowlege.
Personally I am an atheist because I lack any belief in gods. I do not claim to be agnostic because I don't know if the fundamental basis for reality is unknowable or not. How would I know such a thing. Agnostics may well be correct that reality is unknowable, but I don't know where they would get the knowlege for such a claim.

I am an atheist with an open mind. I will get the details from another time I answered this. I do not feel like typing that much again....hole on 1 min.
Crap, can't find it. Guess I will type it again. I am no certain there is not god. I am not certain there is not pink elephants in the 6th dimension. I am not sure of anything. To be sure of something, you must know everything. If you do not, anything could exist. No one will ever know everything, so this debate will always go on. I look at what we do know. I can only come to a conclusion based on know facts. Looking at the facts, I come to the conclusion that there is no god. I also came to the conclusion that ice cream exists. I can never be certain, but can only go on what we know. No one can be sure of a single thing, not even your existence. So a belief is believing in something based on what you have. People look at the evidence differently, and come to different conclusions. Agnostics just don't really take a position. A belief is not a certainty, just what it looks like to you.

I am not an atheist, but I don't know if I'm agnostic either. I'm a former Christian who still believes, although in a different way. I no longer believe in a religion, but I do believe in a God or some type of creator. I just don't see any other way of explaining how something could come from nothing.

Since saying there is no God is an absolute statement, for that to be true one would have to have to be omniscient, or possess all the knowledge in the universe to know there is no proof of God's existence. So I am assuming when you ask this it is because you assume with the limited knowledge we have compared to all of the knowledge in the universe the proof of God's existence could be contained in that knowledge we do not yet possess. So at best since a self proclaimed atheist does not contain that much knowledge they would at best be an agnostic, am I close?

No. Formal agnosticism is the claim that god(s) is unknowable. Such a claim is philosophically unsound, as it presumes one of only two possibilities;
- God does not exist
- God exists but is not knowable
The second position assumes knowledge about god, when it has been claimed that no knowledge is possible. That's an inconsistent stance. The first position is simply atheism.
So as long as the claim that god does not exist is seen as simply a judgement like any other claim of knowledge rather than a dogmatic and infallible truth, atheism is the consistent position.
Weak agnosticism, which simply states "I don't know anything about gods" is also consistent.

No, not really. If anyone ever proved that there was a "god" I would have alot of pointed questions for the big jerk, and insults to go along with it as well. So, even if he was real, I would not love him or worship him unless he turns out to be Johnny Depp or a Spaghetti Monster who also loves pirates. Arrrgh!

I can't say for absolute that there are no other beings existing in some other dimension, in fact there probably are. I just don't believe in the god or gods people worship
