I would suggest that you could find someone with whom you could directly swap reiki therapy for driving lessons. They don't need to be a driving instructor, necessarily, as anyone can help you learn to drive. Then you will just need to do your theory test, and if you want to you can have a couple of paid-for lessons in the run-up to your test just to check that you're okay.
If you want a proper instructor and don't know any, there are a number of work/time exchange schemes where people exchange time spent doing work for tokens which can be used for someone else doing work in return, so you just need to find a driving instructor near you who's in the scheme and then you can earn your tokens with anyone.
Good luck with your new business and the driving lessons :-)

Yes, you may be able to. It depends where you live. Go to the job centre and register as interested in returning to work or starting your own business. In some areas of the country there are trial schemes to assist you back into employment.
Self employment is the most difficult to manage because of your tax code, but it is possible. You may be able to get help with things like a suit to attend interviews ( and talk to bank managers), training on how to run a small business, and driving lessons if that would help you get back to work. If you take a job you get help during the first month to pay your rent, because returning to work is expensive; plus you may also get a back to work grant.
If you go self employed, you get a business advisor. In your first year of trading you will still be on benefits level income, and you will pay all income over that to the dss. At the end of the year they retain half and you recieve the other half.

There's no such thing are free driving lessons unless you ask a family member which will no doubt end in arguments.
You could ask a good friend.

No parents or friends who can teach you? If not then I feel you may be out of luck, the government doesn't see driving as an essential skill yet. Wait a while and maybe there'll be a degree course you can take for free ;-)

I think steamroller has the right idea. On freecycle if you log on you can (in my area anyway) swap services such as you doing reiki for someone that can teach you to drive.
Have you thought of offering reiki from your home? You could advertise locally and in the paper. Just a suggestion.

Hi. I live in Raleigh, and I know that getting a DL in NC can be daunting. Give the people at the DMV a call, and see what they might have to offer. It's possible that they have a program for people who are not as able to afford the private driver's training courses around. I'm sure that they'll be able to help you, after all, it's their job to make sure that the drivers on the roads in Durham are licensed, insured, and safe.
Oh yeah, and you can visit http://raleigh.craigslist.org/ for more leads on services that people might offer. I know people who found their babysitter using that site.

Telephone "The Instructor Training College" (Yellow pages)
They teach driving instructors and will be able to put you in touch with a trainee.
