Me too and have been for as long as I can remember (i'm 27 now).
I am not afraid of snakes, skydiving, or literally anything else .
My fear of spiders is so bad that I would sleep in my car some nights if I saw a spider web in my bedroom. I would also spray raid in my room daily to ensure no spiders could come.
Psychiatrists say the best way to overcome a fear is to confront it. Go in a pet store with some close family or friends and ask to hold a tarantula. I haven't done it , but heard it can help.
Otherwise, you can just be like thousands of others and live in fear of these 8 legged/ 6 or 8 eyes fanged creatures ....yuck! You aren't alone :-)...rest assured!

I saw a TV show on arachnophobia just recently. They desensitized the person by putting him in a room with a spider in a glass container (like an aquarium) and had the person sit across a table from it...watching the spider. Eventually, the guy worked his way up to handling the spider and letting it crawl on his arm. This was a process that took several weeks.
Maybe, you can try something like that...using a harmless spider, of course.

What helps is remembering that 98% of the spiders can not hurt a human. Study of them will help too but you may simply have to do some aversion therapy. In other words, you need to start trying to get used to them in a controlled situation. Like them in a glass cage, inches from you but totally safe. After a while handle them, but you want to be sure of the breed so you dont handle anything that is unsafe. In southern cali where I used to live the wild tarantulas were totally harmless, you could pick one up and even it if did bite it would not even make you naseus. When you are ready get one in the house as a pet.
You can go to a pet store and do most of it for free.

i haven't been bitten by a spider (that i'm responsive to), and because antivenoms have been stepped forward there is no real hazard of being killed by one. That pronounced, there are some precautions you may desire to take. lots of the nastier spiders (including whitetails, wolf spiders and funnel-webs) are maximum energetic at evening, so once you're going exterior interior the night that's often a solid theory to positioned on footwear. based the place they have been, which you should to check those footwear earlier you place them on, too. additionally be careful while shifting issues around in a shed or aggravating logs. In summer season spiders are frequently finding for someplace out of the solar, which regrettably incorporates homes. I stay in Adelaide and that i many times get a minimum of a few whitetails interior around this time of the 300 and sixty 5 days. frequently they simply run around on the partitions, or take a seat on the showering room ceiling. particularly circumstances human beings get bitten by whitetails because of the fact they p.c.. one up, no longer realising that that's a spider. So beware for that one. additionally in an attempt to take a seat back off, funnel-webs particularly circumstances get into swimming pools. keep in mind that they could stay alive in a swimming pool for countless days. lots of the spiders you will see would be hazard loose. Huntsman spiders, case in point, could be unnerving by using their length, yet they gained't worry you in case you do no longer worry them and their venom isn't risky to human beings in any respect.

I have been afraid of spiders since I was tiny too. I am 28 now and they still scare the daylights out of me. Some fears are just too hard to conquer.

One useful thing would be to minimize the chance that you will see any of them.
If you get rid of flies and other bugs around the house there won't be as many spiders coming around to try to catch them. Also have your parents clean out any spider webs they see before the mother spiders lay eggs and have a zillion baby spiders.

I too have always been afraid of spiders--it is a fear that I have never been able to conquer--and I'm 55 years old. I remember as a child my Mom being terrified of even the smallest ones. Unless you can have a hypnotist block your fear, I'm thinking that you will always have it. Good luck.

Most are harmless! They are really cool to look at! They have many eyes! They eat other bugs!
The best way to overcome your fears is to increase your knowledge of what you are afraid of.
I think just about everyone has some primal fear of spiders! I hate it when I walk in a web! But, again, most are harmless
