Most people who have active minds at night play the tv or radio (like me) to help distract them while they try to fall asleep, otherwise the noise in their minds keeps them up. Also, some people who are single do this to give themselves some company as to not feel lonely. Certainly nothing wrong with it, getting a good night's sleep is the most important thing.

Alot of times the reason we turn on a TV or Music is for the "WHITE NOISE" affect. What happens is while listening to the Television or Music we are able to tune out other noise's that may be in or around our surrounding areas.
Like say Noisey Neighbors or Loud Traffic.
Your not sick there's nothing wrong with you it's a pretty common thing.

I sleep with my TV on every night. If I am staying some place where there is no TV in the room, I have a hard time sleeping. It's just a comforting thing for me. No, we are not sick. To each his own, my friend.

No, you're not sick. You've probably always had a radio or television on when you went to bed, or you lived in an area with a lot of background noise at night. You've become accustomed and/or dependent on the background noise.
I wouldn't call it an issue unless a change in your situation has given rise to a conflict - a new partner who requires silence, or roommates or neighbors who are disturbed by your background noise, etc.
I used to sleep with a radio on everynight, until it occured to me one day that I never felt like I got a good night's sleep. I forced myself to sleep without the radio, and found I slept much better. If you're trying to change this habit, consider lowering the volume gradually each night until you eventually don't need the noise at all.

Most people who need the TV on or music playing have a ringing in their ears. This seems to alleviate it so they can go to sleep.

i dont think so, my brother used to leave the tv on but the volume off. and me i have to watch atleast 30 minutes of tv before sleep. regardless of what time.
