Its really a lame comparison because its 2006 not the middle ages. The world should be modern and civilized and not barbaric.

For one, those who were involved in the Crusades were not Christians, they said they were but were not, to be Christian is to be "Christ-Like" and "Christ-Like" people dont go on murdering sprees to force thier ideology upon others, defend yourself yes, if attacked, but to force it, no.
The Holy Spirit changes peoples hearts, not the sword.

It's not lame and just because the world is modern does not mean it's civilized. The comparison is of the violence being initiated by the religious groups which is a valid comparison in my opinion. Witches were burned, Jews are blown up... looking at the big picture, it's exactly the same thing.

It's not a lame comparison to Muslims for whom the history remains a very raw wound. Their mullahs continually remind them of the the last Crusades when Christians invaded their lands and killed them, supposedly in the name of God, but in reality to plunder the land and rule.

As to it having happened a thousand years ago, the event so fthe Bible happened 2000 years or more ago, but they are still considered relevant by millions of Jews, Christians, and Muslims.

But European colonialsim didn't happen 1000 years ago. The Brits divided up the Ottoman empire less than a hundred years ago, creating states like Iraq in order to administer them for exploitation of their natural resources. BP, was orginally the Bristish Persian Oil Company you know. In 1953 the CIA assasinated the democractically elected prime minister of Iran and replaced him with the Shah to prevent Iran nationalizing its oil resources. There are many examples since the Crusades of those from "Christian" nations engaging in imperialist exploitation of Muslim lands, so the Crusader anolgy is not lame. It is completely appropriate especially to people whose land is occupied by a foreign invader.

Although our technology has grown, on the most basic levels, we are the exact same species that we were in the middle ages. When one compares the weapons of today with those of the Middle Ages, it would seem that we are infinitely more barbaric at this point in time.

I totally agree that the comparison is quite valid.

A little more modern example - Hitler was a crazy man who tried to obliterate the Jewish race. He was also Christian. Who in his right mind would assume all Christians are the same as Hitler? That kind of thinking is uncivilized and ignorant!

The point is killing for religion. As religion has not changed/matured/evolved in the time since the Crusades, I'd say the comparison is quite valid.

But it is the same Catholic church and they have the same beliefs and customs. They are the beast power in Revelation 13 and the little horn power of Daniel 8. They are filled with traditions of men and customs from the pagans.

That is quite right. The real comparison is between what happened in September 2001 and what is happening in Baghdad right now.
