Could you suggest a site for a free compression software (other than WinZip)?

Sometimes, it is quite necessary to compress the files because it is very difficult to upload the heavy files. Could you suggest me a website from where I can download a free compression software? It would be great if it has more compression capability than WinZip. Thanks
