That is Wrong Interpretation of the Word.

Interesting how fast people will all of a sudden say that that may be a wrong interpretation, or not to take the bible to literal. But when it comes to other verses in the bible, maybe the ones that are more convenient, people will stick to it, and "preach" about it.

not wanting to prove matthewbj's point, but

u cant take that 100% word for word literally.

if so, then the apostles would have been naked, since they couldnt own clothes, and the whole "take off your sandels so i can wash ur feet" thing couldnt have happened

and doesnt Jesus also say "those who want to follow me must pick up their cross" or something like that? so are we supposed to borrow a cross from rent-a-center?

thats why u cant take that passage 100% literally, i think rangedog has it right

I think the basis of the verse is to not hold more value on material things than spiritual things.

Material things are good for a short time, but spiritual things will last indefinitely.

your funny-get a life and get real-when u let jesus into your heart -your a joint heir of heaven-but coming to Jesus you have to repent from sins-and let him come in to control your life-everything you have was already God's -so he can direct you-ive helped alot of people come to Jesus over 3,000 so far-and He is the one that gives true security-if money is your god -then till u are ready to let Jesus be your God over the idol of money your not ready for salvation-
as a Jew money was my god too-and i prayed-Jesus im sorry for my sins come into my heart, forgive me and save me, be my friend-amen---and a new life began as he promised in Revelation 3 vs 19&20 thanks david
