It is cracked on only one wall (kitchen) but on that wall the paint is severly cracked all over that wall. what boggles my mind is the fact that the same new white paint was used to paint over the same old paint underneath.

OK, when you paint you need to check what base is your paint before, the darker colors are harder to cover with light colors unless you pay good box and buy a good based paint. But anyways. Many times you need to clean the walls before you paint GREASE is not a good thing on the walls... My own opinion about this is you should use a white primer to cover the old color and paint the white color... or put another hand of paint, many times when you change the color to white you need more than one hand and thick layer of paint... Look for an ICI store near you and ask the sales representative they are great people.

I've learned in that situation, the wall itself may have been introduced to different elements that has caused the effect to happen ONLY on one wall. Maybe it had previous water damage or possible it wasent painted the same way as the rest of the house.

My best suggestion to fix the problem is get paint remover and a hand sander. First, removed the paint you just applied off the wall. Then sand down the wall from all the previous layers of paint that have been there so it all nice, smooth, and even. Then, reapply the color of paint you like and use a primer to be applied first! Because your in a Kitchen, make sure you think of all the heat and/or coldness that wall will be effected by so you know if you need, gloss, semi-gloss, or flat paint to make it last.

I know it'll take some time, about a full 8 hour day, to undo what has been done, but if your going to be there a while, it might be worth the effort!

Good Luck!

In most cases it is best to remove the old paint and put primer on the wall before you paint so that the new paint has a proper substance to stick on too. Primer is utilized to prevent cracks and helps the paint stick to the surface you are painting on. if you don't have the patience or time to remove the old paint you should at least use primer. Your paint probably cracked cuz you painted directly on the old paint instead of removing it and using primer.

Did you use a primer? I would suggest always using a primer, otherwise I'm not sure what would cause the paint to crack like that♥

Are you sure that it was the same paint? Because usually that onlly happens when you paint over latex with enamel or vice versa.

my guess is the paint underneath has a high gloss and you painted over it in a matte when you should have used at least a semi gloss

Uhh... Did you use primer between coats?

If not, that is why the paint cracked.

Latex over oil base will do that too

You did not prep the walls. Sand, use stain-kill.. try it again.
