Here we call it hitch hiking, stick out your thumb to catch a ride to where you want to go. There you would maybe need a group thumb's up to catch a bus for all.
Have you thought about just being available as a tour guide for a hotel/motel/ tourist agency?

Check on international schools offering scholarships to travel to that country and from there, look elsewhere. Find a sponsor for your trip. It is difficult to find free things in this day and age, but not impossible. Good luck!
