I notice people have an opinion about Catholicism without ever having been one, themselves. There will always be know-alls and you can see who they are by what they post.

It's just a prayer. Catholics are not only visual but tactile.

Ok, I'm a lapsed catholic, and I don't have much good to say about that religion, but ignorance in any form really irks me.

Catholics don't worship idols, or break the first commandment. They simply like visual representations of things. They don't worship anyone but god; they just think Mary, jesus and all the saints are really really cool, and they pray to them for intercession. It's like they pick someone they can relate to, and ask that entity to go to god for them.

I don't really get it either, but it's not idol worship. It's more like reverence.

Sorry, I aren't a Catholic, an old lady who lived next door to us when I was a child had her rosary beads out constantly, she said her faith in prayer got her through life, she lived till she was 98, so I would say they work.

The rosary is a religious exercise in honor of the Virgin Mary. The term also refers to the string of beads used to count prayers. “Five sets of ten beads, separated by an individual bead,” explains the same book, “are an invitation to fifty recitations of ‘Hail Mary’, five of ‘Our Father’, and five of ‘Glory be to the Father.’” Does God listen with favor to the devout recitation of the rosary?
The instructions that Jesus gave to his disciples provide us with an authoritative answer. “When praying, do not say the same things over and over again, just as the people of the nations do,” he said, “for they imagine they will get a hearing for their use of many words.” (Matthew 6:7) So Jesus specifically told his followers to avoid repeating set formulas in their prayers.

Hi,

I was a practising Catholic for 17 years, I am now 26.

I know Catholics a very sincere regarding who they pray to, but you can be sincerely wrong!

When I was 17, I went a Pentecostal Church which presented Christ to me in a very real way. My life has never been the same since I encountered Him. Jesus is the one who stands at the right Hand of the power of God intercedeing for us.

He was the only one with the power to save, it was He alone who died, and it is his blood alone which cleanses us from our sin.

The bible also tells you that all authority was given to Christ, in His name alone is the power to save.

There is no other person which can take his place, not even the the earthly mother of Jesus. God said you shall not worship any other God or graven images.........even ones that seem good.

Jesus also said do not pray repeated prayers.

You can create God's in your heart which you may think are ok or you can be unaware that you are creating a God in your heart, but God calls this idolatry!

God also states in His word not to pray to anyone in HEAVEN or on earth or under the earth other than Him.

Mary was a blessed woman, she was granted the most important role of bringing up the Son of the living God, thats why she said every one shall call me blessed. She also said that my Soul magnifies the LORD and MY SPIRIT rejoices in GOD MY SAVIOUR.....Mary was in need of a Saviour too! she was born of man, she was human the same as us.

Mary was never given any other role than giving birth and to bring up Christ......a very very special role. She must of been trusted of God. And now she will be in Heaven because of her Saviour.

Mary also said to the deciples, "do as he says" regarding Christ, she new her place.

But Jesus is your Lord, he is the right and true one to pray to or worship, as all honour and glory and power belong unto Him alone. He alone is worthy, this is stated throughout the entire Bible.

Praying to Mary and the Saint's is totally unscriptural, there is no basis for it, other than in the Apochrapha.

Im only saying that you cant go by what man says, but what the word of the living God says, that is your true manual. Jesus said my people perish for lack of knowledge!

Jesus is alive, and he longs for an intimate relationship with us.

Jesus is the only way, he was the only one given all power and authority to save.

take care

I am not a Catholic but does a prayer from the heart not have more power than one which is constantly being recited?

Catholicism is based on indoctrination; simple as that...

Whilst people are saying the Rosary over and over again, they ain't being naughty...

How do you enforce a message to the masses? Repetition...the Rosary as an icon and a symbol are very important to catholics, but ultimately the repetitive regurgitation of mantras is see across all religions and can be viewed as a re-enforcement process.

It's just more paganism.

The first commandment states that you should have no other Gods before you, but if you are praying to Mary what does that make her? Yep, a god.

It's the same as praying to statues. That's a big no-no. Remember the golden calf?

That's what happens when people are too lazy to read the Bible themselves - they believe what they are told.
