There's nothing wrong with solitude, but I think if you don't interact with people sometimes, it could lead to depression and loss of perspective.

Yes, very. If you don't have a social life why not sign up for some classes where you can meet other people and have fun while learning something. This takes the pressure off meeting people because you are immersed in learning instead of trying to impress someone. You don't have to be witty (if you're not!) and can try and solve problems together.
You could also volunteer to help some group or other. Your local social services would be able to offer various organisations I imagine. I don't know what country you're in. I'm in Australia, and that's how it works here. There's quite a variety so you should be able to find something that attracts your interest. Good luck. :)

I think it's not that bad. Book is always the best friend which helps your intellect.

It's always better to have some sort of social life.

I don't think it's bad for your intellect, but if you are extremely little around other people you don't have much of a reflection of yourself, which means you aren't as much aware of yourself and your actions on the rare occation you do socialize.

I have schizoid personality disorder, which basically means I prefer solitude over socializing. I am very intelligent, but I'm not very good at socializing and following the social behavior expected, simply because I have little experience with socializing compared to most people.

Being socially isolated leads to depression, anxiety, subtance abuse/dependecy and a lot of health/weight problems. I live in NY. People here are so isolated they become delusional and start doing/accepting things they wouldn't do in any other situation, usually just to get attention any way they can.

Don't have too many friends, but have a few close ones. It is not easy and takes a tremendous effort, but it will help you keep your spirits up. And avoid people who say 'everything is going to be all right' all the time, because unless you make it all right for yourself it won't get better. That's just the truth. Make it happen.

Any sort of new stimulation will help your brain to function better. That being said, this does not have to come from a social life.
On the other hand, most people need at least some friends to live a fulfilling life.
